Then they took the the indians land and introduced them to Jesus. Now they are getting back at the white man by taking advantage of his own greed through casinos. 350 years later, were even again. 284444[/snapback] Acording to history, the pilgrams survived the first winter of 1620 (and jan+feb of 1621) on their own and didn't meet and befriend the wampanoag tribe of native americans until march of 1621. They learned from each other and in oct. celebrated what they then refered to as "An English Harvest Celebration". The rest of what you said was right on . NATIONAL Thanksgiving wasn't celebrated until 1777 (when it was declared by the Continental Congress). But that still wasn't Thanksgiving as we know it today. Thanksgiving as we know it today was called for by abraham lincoln in 1863 when the first of our last-Thursday-in-November annual Thanksgivings was celebrated. Brooke Posted November 25, 2004 Report Share Posted November 25, 2004 ahh thanksgiving... it 5am, i was kicked out of my room last night, forced to sleep on the couch in the living room. i cant sleep and everyone will be up and about in a few hours. oh well. the only part of the holidays i like is the food. turkey, pork roast on the grill, mashed taters, gravy, turnip, carrots, stuffing....then of course pie, apple, pumpkin, lemon marange, and my favorite, chocolate. god damn im hungry. think i can survive the day on only an hours sleep??
