What gearing for a Banshee in the dunes?

I've got a 55hp Banshee and want to run 22" tires in back [for clearance]. I plan on just general duning, not hill-shooting.

 

What gearing do you guys suggest? What if I run 20's, how will that change the gearing choice?

 

What is stock?

20" tires = 15/41 gearing

22" tires = 14/42 gearing

 

Stock is 14/41 with 20" tires.

 

These would be the ideal gearing for what you want to do as long as you have pipes on that Banshee. If you don't have pipes, it will probably be a little tall.

i used to run 13/41 and was perfect for me... friends with same setup would run 14/41

I run the 14/41 with 20" extremes I really don't see a reason to change it. Mine is a duner but will hold its own and then some at the hill.

It has 15/39 on it and with 22's on it it has the fastest top speed of any thing at the drags. [it's not the quickest by any means.] Gear selection is too important for my liking being that I am a 4 stroke guy at heart.

LOL, I was runnin a 13/42 with 21" 9 Paddle Haulers....thing was a handfull anywhere in the sand!

for the flats, gear it higher. you don't need as much torque when switchin from gear to gear on the flats because you don't loose the momentum that you would shooting up a steep dune. obviously for hill shooting gear it down too keep the gear ratios closer together.

i run 14/42 with 22" 8 paddle tires...it works great for ridin through the dunes and i beat or at least keep up with all the other bikes racing up compition hill

I ride in glamis with 22 inch tires and have about the same hp as you and like to use all of my 6 gears. You should use 13-41. If you use 20 inch tires use 14-41.

I ride at little sahara lots. I prefer lower gearing 13/41 or 12/41. I barely ever get into 6th gear except for a short time. I also ride lots of the trails and prefer the low gearing for them. I think lower gearing is faster on the drags also. Becasue then you can start in 2nd.
