I recently rode at local dunes(silver lake). I run a k+n filter w/outerware, proflow system, no airbox lid. Cleaned and lubed up filter before the weekend. After riding I took filter off to discover a pretty good amount of super fine sand got past the filter. I did not spray the inside of filter, is this nessecary. also is the k+n worthy for the dunes?

The foam filter lovers are gonna have a field day with this.

I've run K&N with O/W for 4 years now, mostly dusty conditions and NEVER had a problem. I use the K&N kit to clean and oil.

You shouldn't have to oil the inside of the filter.

Don't know what to add really...

K&N's are great for the dunes I think. You might check a couple things tho; did you put a dab of grease inside the rubber where the K&N mounts? Is your K&N getting old? (they do wear out eventually and develop holes in the gauze-hold it up to a light and see if there are any big holes)

I don't ever oil the inside, just spray down each pleat and let it soak in. The only problem I have with mine is loading up in severe dust. Good luck.

I have not had any issues with my K&N fitler with Outerwares, maybe your filter was lube like some of thhe others guys suggested or you did not get enough grease between the prodeign adaptor and the air box or you have a gap between the two.

i think most people do love the foams out on the sand, but i dont see why if you oiled it right, made the connection sealed, and put on a outerwear it wouldent do just as good

I'm just curious, what do you use to clean it?? I know that some cleaners out there may be too strong. I usually use some dish soap and water to clean mine, it seems to be holdin up great.

I use the k+n cleaner + charger kit. I used maxima filter spray that i just bought for the first time, but I did not grease the rubber boot or proflow adapter banghead . What are your guys thoughts on the sand that got in? This top end has 15-20 hours on it max, I really don't want to have to tear it down and wash block out w/kerosene or gas. Should i be alright, sand is super fine. I will tear it down to the reeds and clean everything to that point. Please give me your thoughts on this.

if u think sand got in there, take off the topend and flush it with kerosene. even sand will def f*ck up a crank and pistons, even thou there small there really really hard. so is it worth te hour to do that, or 700 for a whole new topend?
