jag706 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 What's up brothas, I've come to the guru's for advice. I want to toss the old air filter in the ga'bage to help my shee inhale some more oxygen to go with the pipes am about to install. Now here's where am confused , I don't know if I can just buy a Uni filter (ex.) and try to install it onto my current filter holder or do I need to modify some parts or buy a new spacer like I have seen on some shee's. Oh and no doubt that I will be ripping the snorkel out and definetely jetting it Any help is much appreciated Quote
hamuel Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 just junk the box and put k&ns clamp ons on it. Quote
Nighty Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 The clamp on's flow LOADS of air. But i think the replacement k&n filter for in your airbox does really good aswell! And its better for muddy or rainy conditions. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 you runnin in sand, or in dirt? Quote
ledofthezep Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Toomey 2:1 - One of the best mods on my bike to date. I still have my old K&N clamp ons,...hated them. They work good, but they were very, very high maintinance & hell to keep outerwears on. The 2:1 filters just as good, is more moisture friendly(especially with the new water-resistant outerwears), easy to clean, and I'm still running the outerwear that came with it. Got mine from RockyMtn. Quote
sredish Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I wonder if the Toomey 2:1 would fit my single carb??? Hmmmmm.... Quote

jag706 Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 WHOA you guys sure don't hesitate to help a brotha out Okay I am definetely looking for greater air volume but I do have to keep my stock air box (- the snorkel) cause most of the riding areas around here are trails with the occassional sand pitts that I sometimes jump in. The trails sometimes have mini lakes - okay, huge puddles that form when it rains hard that week soaking me and my banshee. I am going to look into both K&N and Toomey to see which is best for me and pocket friendly OH YEAH, so when I buy a filter do I have to buy a spacer or just customize one? Thanks, you guys rock Quote
kenr74 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 The trails sometimes have mini lakes - okay, huge puddles I'm not sure if you need the snorkle but the box is probalby a good thing to keep. I have clamp ons and love them. I went through a big puddle this weekend though and killed it. Twenty minutes later I FINALLY got it started and it cough and sputtered for a while. Banshees don't seem to like water. Quote
ledofthezep Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Depends...the 2:1 system will completely replace the airbox. For your riding though...lots o water..., you may fare better keeping the air-box, getting a proflow adapter & some good pod filters, like the K&N's with the lid attached, I'd still run outerwears on them though; just in case. Or maybe some other in-box filter setup, I think WhiteBrother's has a good setup, or those staged filters...shit I dunno, someone fill him in on in-box filter options. Quote
jag706 Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 YOOOOO I just caught that LEDOFTHEZEP {2:1} I am F'in laughin' my ass off I didn't catch it till the second time around -I didn't see the stooge action going on at first and now I still can't stop laughing...you guys are too much Quote
ledofthezep Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Right on man! Let us know what you decide to go with. Led Zeppelin Quote
sredish Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Who you callin a stooge? I run a ProFlo with a Uni filter and it is a great setup. I don't think it flows quite as much as the K&N, but filters really really well. I usually run with the lid off in the summer and lid on in the winter. Quote
Banshee0028 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I usually run with the lid off in the summer and lid on in the winter. Hey Sredish, why would you put the lid back on in the winter? Wouldn't it breath better wheather its winter or summer? Quote

Wouldn't it breath better wheather its winter or summer? because the colder denser air needs to have bigger mains, or you can cheat and restrict air flow a little. but dont forget that if you ditch the air box youll need to fab/buy a bracket to relocate your water bottle Quote
