Can someone give me a hint on how to remove the joints from the stock a-arms?

I removed the cotter pin and crown nut, but was unable to loosen the joints. Any trick to removing the rubber boot that cover the joints. looks like there is some kind of spring clip that holds it in place. Do I need to remove that to remove the joints. Basicly what im trying to do is, change stock a-arms with new ASR +2+1 a-arms.

no do not take that spring off. what you can do is tap on the spindle and loosen the ball joint in the spindle. or you can put the castle nut back on as far as possible and whack it a few times. this should also loosen it up. try that then post back.

If loco's trick dont work they actually make a tool for seperating ball joints. It looks loke a big fork with tw0 taperd prongs. you slide the ball joint between the prongs and wack it with a hammer and the tapered prongs drive the joint out. you can find them aat any auto parts store Im sure, and fairly cheap. Its a good tool to have.

 doing that you have a good chance of ruining that boot.

Where the ball joint goes into the spindle, apply some pulling apart force between the spindle and the a-arm, and whack the side of the spindle where the balljoint goes into it. Give it a couple good whacks and it should come right out.

To get the new ones in (may have to get the spindles taperbored depending what balljoints), I used an inner race of a rear wheel bearing, but anything round and metal should work. Mine just wanted to keep spinning and not want to slide up into the spindle, so I took the inner race and put it inbetween the spindle and the lock nut, tightened it down some, removed the inner race and tightened it down the rest of the way. Worked like a charm

Whack it with a hammer, for sure!

The ball joint separator tools work sometimes, but only if you're planning on replacing the joint and boot. They do wreck the boots. I tried to use one on my S10 balljoints (4WD.. spindle and hub were STUCK) and just ended up ripping the boot. Big hammer broke it loose.. just was really stuck in there after a while. Probably the same thing on the shee.
