johnautobus Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I went out to start shee and it started and ran about 30 seconds and stopped I pulled plugs and checked for spark. No spark. Could someone give me a procedure to start through to figure out what is wrong? Like ohm the stator ! Quote
locogato11283 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 i just had the exact same problem. it was the stator. pull your side cover and shit and see if any wires are fried or anything. you can have it tested too. i bet thats your problem. if you figure out which part it is, the stator or the pick up, you can prolly find one and just swap it out. MotulMonsta Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Start by checkin your key, make shure it's on, then makeshure you have a good ground when you check your plugs..head bolts are a good place to check. Next if still no spark, go over all the wiring and check for broken or melted wires..particularly by the airbox. Then after ALL the wires have been inspected, pull the stator cover off and makeshure everything is good. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the plugs on the cdi and tap on the cdi..moisture builds up on old cdi's and grounds them out. next disconnect the tors from the carbs and from the little black box next to the coil. If you still don't get a spark it's time to consult a manual for specific test regarding Tor's system, cdi stator and coil. Quote
cdcoxwell Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Welcome to my world. I'm sparkless myself. Buy a Clymer manual, it's the best $20-$25 you can spend. The manual will walk you through step by step. You are going to need an ohm meter, it's a must have. With the manual and the ohm meter you will be able to chk the key switch, kill switch, and statar. Even though the manual states that you can chk the coil with an ohm meter, they would be incorrect because you can't get a correct reading. You need to take it to a steelership, they will chk your coil for free. I chked mine w/a meter and it claimed that the coil was bad. I posted here about all of my meter readings and a couple of members mentioned that I wouldn't be able to chk the coil myself and they were correct. Took it to the dealer, they chked it and shee was fine. There is not a tester to chk the cdi box. The only way is to remove it and install on another shee. According to the manual, my statar was shot I replaced it last wk and I still don't have a spark. So, the next thing I have to replace is the cdi box . So, good luck and keep us posted. Quote
