Sand Mountain Nv

Hey fellow Sandlovers. I want to go to Sand Mountain NV but I have never been there before. Ironic since it may be the best and is the closest doons to where i live. I know it is close to the town of Fallon but exactly what are the directions to get there. I'll be comming east on I-80 past Reno then what (take I-50 at Fernley towards Fallon? and what road to take before/after fallon?) Also what kind of camping is there? Anybody got a link or campsite reservation info? Any doon riding advice/tips for Sandmountain?

Whats this Kearny Buckwheat butterfly, do I need to bring some bugspray to keep these pests down or what, just kidding! Sounds like Lahontans ferry shrimp, spotted owl, ect. I'm doing searches to find riding info, but all I can find is a bunch of enviro BS about shutting the doons down.

Thanks

Hey that's cool, I'll be there this weekend. Get off at the the second fallon exit, and follow the signs going to Vegas. You cant miss it. When you go pass fallon race way look to your left. You have to drive about a mile and a half in the dirt, but its not bad. I hear thats there is so many people out there already that you might have to park on the highway. Hope I see you out there.

Ducman, Sand Mountain is great this is my home away from home. Their is a $20.00 fee at the end of the road before you enter or $45.00 for the season. As far as camping this weekend is going to packed if you don't mind campimg 5 feet from other people you will not have a problem. make sure you have your flags it is a $50 fine if you don't have one and they are on the whatch. Their is pleanty of riding just DO NOT ride in the trails with red polls blocking them these are closed trails they will give you so much shit you will wish you had not even learned to ride.

Dirtbike killer has his directions wrong!!!! go toward fallon and stay on Highway 50 East!!!!!!! Do NOT GET GAS AT THE GAS STATION THAT HAS LOGS HOLDING UP THE ROOF ABOVE THE PUMPS THEY ARE TRYING TO SHUT DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. STAY ON HIGHWAY 50 EAST THROUGH FALLON IT IS ABOUT 25-30 MINTUES OUT OF FALLON IT WILL BE ON YOUR LEFT AND YOU CAN NOT MISS IT.

sierrabanshee, Thanks for the info. No gas at the gas station with the logs holding up the roof, got it. Some people just love to shootingthem selves in the foot I guess? I wont make it there untill at least the weekend of 17th, darn Easter and the annual manditory easter brunch at the Grandparent inlaws house.

Can you get to the camping and or riding area in a car, or do you have to go off road for a bit to get there? Is camping just out in an open area, not like in an improved camping area with tables and fire pits like a typical campground? May be I should wait and plan a trip with my dads RV?

yes, you can get to the Mountain in a car just whatch out for the sandy ares their is no improved camp grounds and no water. There are a couple shit shacks and dumpsters but that is about it if you go on a off weekend you will have no problem finding a camp spot. so come prepaired water. etc. etc.... if you do head over here let me know! My girl and I will go out for the weekend plus i have about 6 other banshee drivers that love to go and play, we will show you the good spots and maybe a little party too. I would like to get some type of roostfest at Sand Mountain about this time of year, it would be perfect riding temp. and a good time BBQ, party fun fun.

Well then! Well have to meet up at the ol' mountain for some good times! I'll line up my dad with the RV, he is a bad ass camp cook, and I'm working in Chico right now so I'll hook us up with a couple cases of Sierra Nevada (only $17 ea. at Chico CostCo). ;) I'll PM you when I get a trip planned. My wife just started a new job so it'll be a weekend warrior type of a trip (leave Fiday and be home late Sunday night) :bolt: but Saturday night will be a blast! :headbang:

I tried a search on Fallon's elevation and came up with about 4000' is that about what sand mountain is? I think I'll need to drop a main size or 2. Have you guys went to Oregon dunes, if so what changes if any did you need to make to pilots between Oregon and Sand Mountain, I'm hoping if anything I'd just need to make some air screw adjustments when I get there and not have to mess with changing jets there.

I know fallon race way is at 3500ft, and you can see sand mountain from there. I think there pretty close. If I run race gas I usally dont have to adjust to much. But on pump gas I go up a jet . Your elevation is lower already, you might not have to do to much. I like my bikes running a little rich to be on the safe side. We will have 10 to 15 bikes out there. I would like to meet some other HQers out there. I have a friend pulling my trailer out there friday night, and I will also be out there friday night. I wish Hq had stickers, so we would know that is a HQer.

I would like some stickers too, or a flag for the dunes would be really good.

I'm running 280 mains and it runs perfect had to run 300 at Dumont plus i run 50/50 race-pump gas the elevation is about 3,500-3750 get the jetting guide and talk to others to what would be right for your quad.

ya, if anybody wants to plan a mini roostin fun party at Sand Mountain let me know I would be thier in a flash  A weekend trip would be perfect for me Ducman just let me know when your planing a trip and I will meet you there, and get some true big dune riding in!! This weekend is going to be in the mid to high 70's perfect.

Is the Dodge truck white because there is a white truck thats has been there for years and still shows up now. I remember when he rolled in super bowl. I go to the Mountain about 2 times a month weather permiting of course, I think the word is out about how nice the Mountain is and the sand worshipers are coming from all over.
