troyminator Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Well guys, I have some studs on my cases that are stripped and some look a littl' iffy, so I am going to replace them. I read some posts about spraying WD on them, but that didn't help much. I got two of the 8 off, but now the remainders are being a bitch. I was using a pair of vice grips to clamp down on the stud. I tried the double nut trick, but they want to just spin out. I bought a reverse drill bit to try, but I don't know if there is a better solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I know I am not the only one who has ran into the damn problem Thanks in advance! T Quote
checkster Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I have one of these. Didnt buy it on this website though. works well check http://www.getmytools.com/AUTO%20TECH/BASICS/stud%20pull.htm Quote
dittmer Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 try a pipe wrench or use an impact wrench with the dbl nut Quote
. Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 sorry man, didnt even look at the stud tips to see how they were. With the double nut trick, with them just wanting to spin off, put the nuts on with the flat part facing each other, and get 2 wrenches to tighten them together. You should be able to turn out the stud using the bottom nut then. A little penetrating lube down where the studs go into the cases usually hopes soaking on there for a while Quote
DIRTBIKEZ Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 The days or using R12 and a torch are over... penetrating really helps even if it has to sit for awhile. Quote
banshee tuner Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 They make stud remover and installer tools cause my boss has them at work. I had to use them before when the double nut trick would noy work. I'm not sure which brand they are cause all his tools are snap on or matco. Quote
