northshore03 Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 i have been reading a lot about what people put in there crank case. i put motul 10w30, havnt had a problem with it, but it is like 10 bucks a bottle. i work at an kragens, so getting regular oil is way easier, but is it really okay to use. if i go that way is it better to use castrol 10w40 or tranny type f. sorry to ask this question again, but i get both answers from all the post. again, just looking to see if it really is ok to use regular motor oil and wether tranny type f is better then motor oil. sorry for the long post. TREELIZARD Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I like to use the ATF type F. but if you use regular motor oil then use something like castrol GTX 20/50 that doesn't have any friction modifiers. I've used both oils and both will do the job well. you wont have any problems with the ATF type F or the 20/50. Quote
Aussie Quad Racer Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 regular motor oil will destroy you clutch in a short period. ATF will not as autos have clutch packs in them too. Quote
ledofthezep Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I've always ran Valvoline 10w30....about $1.35/qt. Cheep enough to change it probably more than it needs it. Quote
shee4202 Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I have been useing bel ray 80w. I change the oil on a regular basis, is there somthing better that i could use or is this oil ok? Quote
BansheeJerry Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 80w??? Good God... thats way too thick IMO. I bet that thing is a bear to start in the cold with that syrup in the crank case. I have been using valvoline ATV 10w/40 with great results. 2 or 3 bucks a quart. Quote
