Yamaha banshee shifting opposite from factory

02 Yamaha banshee how is it possible for my gears shift opposite from factory?

example: factory gears shift 1 down 5 up…

problem now shifts 1 up 5 down..

how is that possible? All I did was put a new top end and this happens

Only way I can see that happening. Is if you somehow got the end of your shift shaft backwards. Where it connects with the shift star.

Checked that and the gears it’s all  Correct Illl

 heck the gears if they all in the right place 

I jus bought the bike and I dunno what the previous owner did

So you bought it ( without riding it?) Put in a new top end, & now, with your new top end job done, it shifts backwards?

Top end was blown yes it wasn’t running

I know it sucks to hear but the only way to fix it is to tear it all down yourself and rebuild it again. Only because that’s not a common problem so you might not find a solid answer. And if you’ve never rebuilt a full banshee motor, they’re really easy…just make sure you get the right center case gasket material and seal it up good. Plenty of videos out there too

^^   you can pull it aprt w/o  Disturbing the top end . just strap the crank to the top case somewhere, and remove bottom half of case, while upside down...

After you drive it around, like that 1st. to see if there's anything else you need to do while you're Tearing it down. pending  Getting ahold of OG owner for possibilities of why, no strange noises during take off, & putting around...
