Top end was blown yes it wasn’t running

Checked that and the gears it’s all Correct Illl heck the gears if they all in the right place I jus bought the bike and I dunno what the previous owner did

02 Yamaha banshee how is it possible for my gears shift opposite from factory? example: factory gears shift 1 down 5 up… problem now shifts 1 up 5 down.. how is that possible? All I did was put a new top end and this happens
