I'm new to the banshee world, I have a YFZ 450 and I just inherited a banshee from my buddy. For now it is just a project bike for me. Before even starting it I changed plugs, oil, clutch and took the carbs apart and cleaned them out. I noticed the TORS that sit on top of the carbs had 2 broken screws on the top (one on each TORS). I decided to look around for replacement TORS and found out that you can bypass them but it involves drilling holes in the carbs, for what reason I don't know. Now my question is......is it worth replacing the TORS or by passing them, any pros and cons about either setup would be a good to know. And what exactly do the TORS do?

throttle overide system. Its a saftey feature that shuts down the engine if any of the carb slide gets stuck wide open. Laywers invention. I took mine off along time ago, so im not a tors expert by no means. Most guys remove em so they can put on a twist throttle. Most twist throttle kits come with a new throttle cable and two standard carb caps. You remove the tors devices on top of the carbs and replace em with these new standard style carb caps. Pop off your seat and look at the tops on your carburetors. Those broken screws your talking about adjust the idle. Turn the screws to raise or lower idle speed. So.... when you remove the TORS and replace em with standard carb caps, you lose the ability to adjust your idle. :( Thats where the "hole drillin" comes in. :) Tors removal kits and twist throttle kits come with a whole new way to adjust your idle, you drill a hole in both carbs, tap it, and install an idle screw...... Everyone gets a worried when they're told they have to drill and tap both of your carbs, but trust me, its real easy. 1 hour job max. All bits and taps come with the kits.

once the tors are off the carbs, access to the carbs is a little easier.

If your tors are working fine and those broken idle screws get unbroken, keep the tors on. especially if you use a thumb throttle. You can buy a TORS removal\idle kit and still use a thumb throttle, you dont have to convert to a twist throttle.

wrong forum btw :ph34r::ph34r:

I just installed the TORS removal kit this weekend, and I agree, real easy.

Any recomendations on where to get the tors removal kit (thumb throtle)?

Rocky Mountain has the lowest price that I have seen. The kit is made by Toomey and I have always had good luck dealing with Rocky Mountain. Their website is rockymountainatv.com

Yeah, it's easy like they say. READ THE DIRECTIONS carefully! When you drill the hole for the idle make sure the carb is facing the right way, you can drill the wrong side, they look alike. You want to drill the side where the throttle slide is angled.
