PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Because that is their names. When ever someone says cub them are talking about the cheetah cub. A serval is really called a serval cub. A serval cub is similar to a cheetah cub, just the serval has lower port timing. Okay, so correct me if I'm wrong here. All CP industries cylinders are "cubs" because that's their brand. Then that branches off to 2 different types of cylinders, serval and cheetah. Am I understanding that correctly? Same cyl, different timing/port Serval: 126/188 Cub : 130/197 My Driveline LP : 122/189 Quote

ClaudeMachining Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Those numbers are a measurement of what ports? Thanks for the info, learning a little bit today. There is a lot of things to learn about that. Make some search on port timing and degre wheel first. Quote
J-Madd Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 No. They have the following cylinders. Cheetah Cheetah cub Serval cub Super Cub Wampus cub Super Wampus Cheetah DM Cheetah DMX Super Serval Wampus Serval http://cpindinc.com/pub/part_list?manufacturer=3 Cougar, Scimitar, Caracal also. Probably can't get those anymore though. And hardly anyone here would want any of those. Quote
J-Madd Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 True they are not monoblocks but they are more often built as banshee based multiple cylinder motors. Mandatory billet cases, among other high dollar parts. Quote

I'm not understanding the naming convention. I'm new to the game... they don't have servals on their site... Quote
J-Madd Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Cheetah uses different head, intakes, and exhaust flange and is generally a bigger bore than a Cub. Quote
PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 From what I can remember, a cheetah was an earlier cylinder. My uncle has one he built years ago, it's a 535. Quote
PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Cheetah uses different head, intakes, and exhaust flange and is generally a bigger bore than a Cub.They still make em? They don't seem to be around as much as the cubs. Thanks Quote
J-Madd Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Cheetahs aren't worth messing with IMO. Cubs (or Drivelines) are much more economical to build. Quote
PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Pretty sure trinity owned the rights to the cheetah, hence why you don't see many.I hear nothing but bad about trinity.. Quote
PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Cheetahs aren't worth messing with IMO. Cubs (or Drivelines) are much more economical to build. So their bigger then the cub. Are they a drag application like the cub, just with a few more upgrades? Edited May 9, 2016 by controls77 Quote
PaymentPlan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 They can be. If you get a PV cheetah, they are great for duning. So that PV gives it some more usable low end Quote
RagunCajun Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 So that PV gives it some more usable low end'" Youll be fine with your low end on your bike. There's no reason you should need more. Mine will brake 22" CST pulse tires @ 5psi loose before the power band with 15/41 gearing. Yours will be more powerful. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Zilla, Why do some distibutors refer to their CP industries cylinders as serval cubs or cheetah cubs? Serval cub is set up for trails/dunes (more low to mid)Cheetah cub is more dune/drag/hill (more mid to top) Quote
