What kind of compression or domes do you have?

+4 is a pretty good proven amount of timing in stockish motors. Keep an eye on it and make sure it gets fresh fuel.

Stock heads. Only thing aftermarket is intake and exhaust

Advancing the timing means spark will happen sooner. This can be good or bad depending on many other variables.

What is your opinion on advancing the timing on a banshee with just an exhaust and intake?

+4* is normally safe. It can help make some more usable power.

Would a 3-4/degree advance still be safe if I put vf4 reeds on? Sorry for the qs but I'm trying to better understand timing. What type of upgrade would make a timing advance risky?

not even close, it is advanced a lot.

Here is the stock timing curve built into the CDI.

So when you add +4*, you move that curve up 4* throughout the curve.

Ignition timing advance: 17°@1200rpm to ~22°@3500 then retard 10° every 5000rpm[/size]

Cool chart, so Zilla does that mean looking at the chart you would take the line and move it up 4* from 0 rpm to 10,000, everything else remaining the same? Just trying to understand exactly how the timing effects the rpms..

Note* check plugs after timing bump and reeds. You will be bumping up pilot and main a tad.

Thank u for the advice. I'm currently running 260mains with my exhaust and intake. Any ideas on what the main and pilot would be after I get the reeds and bump the timing?
