mike0chek Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) ive also had crank failure issues from same builder. but it was not a HR crank Edited October 6, 2015 by mike0chek Quote
Lowroll Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 Someone told me to run the HR crank with stock outer bearings and let it eat Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk Quote
mike0chek Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 like i mentioned.. 4+ years on my old motor with a stock HR crank.... still going strong im on my second top end with same hot rods crank, they seem to be the answer for modified shee's Quote
Lowroll Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 The next time my shee runs, it'll be with a hot rods crank. It's just whether or not I pay for it or Kevin decides to swap me straight up. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk Quote

Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk i made the same mistake buying one of those "stroker cranks" when i when to a 421 and the rod failed 3 tanks into a fresh motor, my HR crank has been going for years now. trickedcarbine Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Someone told me to run the HR crank with stock outer bearings and let it eat Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk No! Not gonna live long on 80+ Hp motors. Change the outers to Max Loads and then kick the shit out of it. Quote
registered user Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 I am not sure what your issue with hot rods bearings but most people i know run the standard bearings on them.... some will change to the TZ and max loud outers but still run the standard inner bearings... My old HJR motor been running 4 years or so on the original HR crank no issues... actually just did a refresh on the top end... crank still turning quiet and clean and seals still holding the leak down bansheehp also said those bearings arent that great so i dont know why your frustration is directed only at me. any monkey can change the outers. to change the inners is another matter entirely, so most people leave them be. you cant expect a $400 crankshaft to have $250 worth of bearings Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Make sure you use the proper maxloads, I use the German versions of maxload and tz , u can see the price diffrence between the two Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Competitive cranks has bearings made by a Taiwan company that I've been using recently with no problems they're a c4 spec bearing where hot rods an oem are c3 spec .. Quote
Lowroll Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 I was looking to just get a max load and tz from fast when I order a crank Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Jeff uses the German bearings so no worries Quote
Lowroll Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Posted October 6, 2015 so a small update, looks like Kevin has finally given in. Hes agreed to refund me for the crank and im sending it back as soon as I get the go ahead. Hoping to order the new bearings and crank this weekend if the return happens by then and also going to grab some fresh copper washers for the cool head. Quote
