lowidenfast Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Hey guys, I have been waiting all week for the shim that goes behind the idler gear so i can put my bike back together and ride but it never showed. It's # 9 below. Can I get a washer from a hardware or parts store in a pinch to keep this from ruining my weekend plans to ride? If so, what specifics should I keep in mind? Is it thicker than the notched washer (#10)? Help, i'm desperate Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 It's a really thin washer. As long as everything fits on the shaft I'd find a washer that works and run it. Just make sure the idler gear doesn't have a bunch of slop and that's it still spins freely. Quote

lowidenfast Posted May 8, 2015 Author Report Posted May 8, 2015 Great, thanks guys. That notched washer is pretty thin too. I think I'll take it to the store with me and just try to match something up to it (minus the notch of course) Quote
sleeper06 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Asking for issues and ground metal in the motor, those bushing are made to have that idler gear constantly contact it , any washer from a hardware store will wear quick never mind the fact I doubt you'll find something that thin. Oh wait just grind it down Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 IF I were to do something like that it would be a last case scenario and I'd replace it ASAP. Quote
registered user Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 havent seen that specific washer but some washers are hardened i do believe. plain jane washer from ace hardware may not last long Quote
sleeper06 Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I have s ton of these If I would have seen this earlier we could have worked something out or fast , two days shit to me all the time Quote
AKheathen Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 use a feeler guage and look for a washer that is within 6 and 12 thousandths of the clearance Quote
lowidenfast Posted May 11, 2015 Author Report Posted May 11, 2015 I ended up sourcing the proper shim. I was skeptical of using something makeshift and none of the washers would have ever worked anyway. They were all way too thick. Quote
