BANSHEEBEEFM2M Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 At what point do you need to start considering upgrading to an 8 plate? Say for example, I get a drag ported 421 cub, will I need to upgrade? Pros & con's? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Never had a problem keeping it locked up on 7 plate set ups with less. Assembled a 10mm supercub for a guy and it didn't start slipping on the dyno till it got to about that point. Any more weight on the lock up and it wouldn't work in a race the way we wanted. Quote
sprinklerman Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 110-120 really?Me neither. I ran 140+/74tq motor and did fine on a 7 plate . 1 Quote
locogato11283 Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 110-120? Haha, no. We ran 7 plate on our 140HP 18DM with no issues. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Damn, 140 is a decent jump. What type of spring and weight? That motor above that I did the clutch on, I just couldn't seem to keep it totally clamped and still get it set up for slip on the start. Quote
m671054 Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 I would guess that they are not tuning the lockup on a 7 plate. I bet they are just using the weight to add more plate pressure. Just my .02, if your gonna try and tune in any kind of slippage get an 8 plate. If your not tuning the clutch just run a 7 with some weight. Quote
sprinklerman Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 From what I've read about beefy,he's dragging in the dunes. Imo, clutch tuning on such an ever changing, inconsistent surface has proved futile. Lock it up and go. Focus on tire, suspension, and chassis setup instead. Quote
BANSHEEBEEFM2M Posted December 7, 2014 Author Report Posted December 7, 2014 Ya I hotlap. I'll go to the tracks a few times a year but that ain't my cup a syrup, or tea. I like the heads up grudge shit Quote

BANSHEEBEEFM2M Posted December 7, 2014 Author Report Posted December 7, 2014 Now, how do I lock up a lock up in a nutshell without having to read the 300 page thread Quote
sprinklerman Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Now, how do I lock up a lock up in a nutshell without having to read the 300 page threadJust install a Mattoon or DD lockup. You could probably get by on 6 stock oem springs, but you might consider 3 & 3 to start. Of course that depends on swinger length, weight, tire, etc. Quote
