Worst case scenario: heads just keep desinigrating and neither method works. At that point, just zip the head off any stuck bolt. Remove the cover and there should be a decent chunk of material to grab with vice grips.

impact driver ftw. It turns for you as you hit it!

X2 I love my impact driver. I ordered Cascade bolts and when I replaced the old screws I used my impact driver and this bolt head was torn to shit from the previous owner and these bolts cracked loose in one hit. I just turned it out with the driver and got the bolts out, no hassle.

I had that happen with a bolt on my Yamaha insert on the clutch case. I took a good, sharp drill bit and drilled through it until the head came off. It left a decent stud and no cutoff wheel marks
