SCOTT PRESSLEY Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 If the play is up and down prob bad bearins, but like Mike posted you can't tighten too much.Let someone hold the back brakes while you try and tighten it more or get something on the axel to hold it still while you tighten . tommo Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 just make sure your axle has no slack, i found this out the hard way and ended up with a chunk out of my bottom end missing. i realised the axle was loose because when i climbed up any hill i could feel the bike joulting , it was the chain slipping so i tryed to ride home (about 10 km) but i didnt make it. i had to get my bike towed home with our 4wd . the axle bearings were completly f!#@kd and they were so bad that it even ripped up the side and inside of my casing but likily the shop could machine it down and it is as good as new except for the chunk missing.
