jmross Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 I currently have a stock cylinder 370 long rod engine and was considering making the jump to a cub cylinder setup. I Just rebuilt my crank so I'd like to stay stock stroke with the 115mm rods. My current cylinders are at 66mm and need to be bored to 66.5mm, which is the max bore size. I was thinking I could instead run 68mm cub cylinders. I still have a stock cylinder head(un sure if any work has been done to it,looks stock). I also already have 35mm pwk's, in frame drag pipes, v-force reeds. My stock cylinder and cases are ported for the 370 setup(pretty aggressive, no low end). Everything should swap over to the cub cylinders? Is it worth the money? or is the power gain not gonna be much? Where is a good place to buy the cub cylinders? I only ride the bike at the dunes and do a lot of hill shooting. Quote
m671054 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 I would buy a head and custom domes if you go the cub/serval route. If it was me i would rebuild what i had and run it for another season while saving for a 4 or 10 mil serval Quote
oldskool Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 If you bore to 66.50 you will be at 375cc. A stock stroke 68 mm cub is 392. Is the price of a cub cylinder worth 17cc? Welcome to BHQ Quote
jmross Posted July 24, 2014 Author Report Posted July 24, 2014 It doesn't flow any better? If larger displacement is all I would gain then I would rather keep my stock cylinders. Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) It doesn't flow any better? If larger displacement is all I would gain then I would rather keep my stock cylinders. Flows better...but even less bottom end. Edited July 24, 2014 by WINDYCITYJOHN400 Quote
trickedcarbine Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 What are you wanting to do with the bike? If you are adamant about keeping stock stroke, bother the serval and regular cub platforms will definitely give you a gain. The cub would be more drag, hill shooter, open dune friendly. Where as the serval will give you a bit more of a broad curve through to the mid range, which is more suited for trails, gravel pit, tight idiot hole dunes, etc. Either way, they should out perform your stockers. n2otoofast4u Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 Depending on who did the stock cylds a cub could be a step backwards. 1 Quote
trickedcarbine Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 Depending on who did the stock cylds a cub could be a step backwards.Ya, but if it was one of those folks I bet it would of been included. Also any one with one of those motors would know the answer to the OP's question. Side note, it is fucking sweet when you see 350 stockers destroy cub cylds in similar chassis set ups. Quote
jmross Posted July 24, 2014 Author Report Posted July 24, 2014 I only ride the bike at the Imperial sand dunes area(Gordens well, Buttercup). The bike already is all top end and doesn't bother me at all, so the cub would be fine. The engine was built by oden racing in AZ. Around 10 years ago I think. I bought the bike about a year ago from my uncle. Would cub cylinders need port work to see gains going from my current setup? Are all cub cylinders Nikasil plated? It would be nice to be able to just bore cylinders to the next size when bad shit happens. Quote
oldskool Posted July 24, 2014 Report Posted July 24, 2014 If you want real gains. 4mil cub will put a smile on your face after it throws you down a couple times Quote
