trickedcarbine Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 I would never lighten a flywheel, but adding weight to the flywheel...... Now there's a concept. Not good for drag or hill shooting, but for a trail guy or moto guy it could be beneficial. I noticed a major difference adding the rotational mass of my slingshot. My bike comes out of the turn quite a bit nicer with the added weight. Quote

It's very popular with 2 stroke dirt bikes. As for lightening. I had mine done. split on me after a while and ruined a day of riding. Never doing it again. Plus you can always find another stock flywheel cheap on here. Quote

I was thinking of the desert/dune guys who just drag race hills. With the way you jump and get in and out of the throttle it would be nice. It would probably help when you land off the throttle and lay back on it would still be wound up. A lot less chance of a bog. Quote

A lot less chance of a bog. We haven't done any heavy flywheel testing, but my crank is a big wheel crank and my brother's is the small wheel crank.. There's a noticeable difference in the way mine comes off the line compared to his. His does seem to rev out a little higher, I assume because of the lighter crank, and it doesn't come off the line quite as easy as mine. Quote

You guys pretty much set it and forget it on the clutches right? I noticed the difference my first ride on it. I started to notice lots of the two stroke dirt bike/motorcycle ice racers are adding weight to clutch set ups or flywheels to keep corner speed. The momentum has a totally different feel. I just think it definitely takes a pretty potent motor to take advantage of it. Quote
