Piediddy Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 So I bought this banshee from a buddy and it sat for bout 2 years. I cleaned carbs and got it running. Will never start cold on its own without a shot of starting fluid, and after bike runs for about 10 minutes it starts cutting out bad. While testing coil the rite side started smoking white bad. I thought while it was sitting still it over heated and blew the head gasket. So I replaced head gasket and no luck. Anybody have any idea. Quote
Pastrykiller Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Bad crank seal on clutch side. Pull the plug and see if it has oil on it. 1 Quote
wayne_smith97 Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Another thing. Never use starting fluid on a two stroke. It will kill it. Quote
Piediddy Posted December 24, 2013 Author Report Posted December 24, 2013 Yes it does, also dripping from silencer looks to be thicker than coolant and premix. Quote
gusto Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 She is eating antifreeze, check gaskets. I would buy a gasket kit and re-do them all. Also, check your compression. Quote
Piediddy Posted December 25, 2013 Author Report Posted December 25, 2013 Compression on that side is 120 Quote
sstaton1983 Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 Sucking in trans fluid. Bad crank seal on clutch side. Pull the plug and see if it has oil on it. sucking in trans fluid. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 pull the motor and get yourself a clymers manual. Then order yourself new gaskets and an entire seal kit. When you get your motor disassembled and your crank is out......send it out to one of our builders to check it out and weld it. This will ensure it will not begin to separate as they are only pressed together. Then clean the entire motor and take your time and go through the entire motor, taking your time to reassemble it all. These are 2 stroke motors. The cases split top and bottom, not sides. which makes it EXTREMELY easy. Hell I know people who have taken the motor apart while at a campsite because it had an issue and fully reassembled it and got back on the trails THAT DAY. But again....take your time.....remember.....if something goes wrong internally at 9000 rpm......it usually isn't a good outcome.... Quote
Piediddy Posted December 25, 2013 Author Report Posted December 25, 2013 Thanks guys, that's prolly what I'm gonna do. Does a 4 mill crank drop rite in without any machine work? And what about after market cylinders like a Cub? Quote
tdod101 Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 4 mil crank will drop right into stock cases, that's what I'll be doing soon as well Quote
RagunCajun Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 pressure test would make the crank seal going bad show up correct? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 That's why he should do a leakdown before tearing it down. Quote
Starwriter Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 That's why he should do a leakdown before tearing it down. But we all know he won't. He'll just get all excited and yank the top end right off. Quote
Young Guns Racing Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 If you are going to pull the motor (what you should be doing seeing as it is sucking in trans oil) do yourself a favor and buy ALL NEW gaskets and SEALS. Then before reinstalling the engine into the frame - leakdown it for peace of mind and for the sake of your wallet incase you missed something. Good luck! Quote
