So my buddies bike has 1st gear no problem, then shift up its neutral then 2nd is another neutral unless hes hammering on it, but if he lets off it pops back into neutral, then hammers again itll kick back in, 3rd gear is fine and 4th does similar reaction as 2nd and 5 and 6 are good. Some transmission issue not sure what exactly could be causing it. 2nd gear is almost like a snowmobile. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Bent and worn shift shaft or bent and worn shift forks.

Or both.

Time to get a good look inside the cases.

I'm with windy. Time to tear in to the cases. Check the eccentric stuff behind the kicker to. Might as well get it appropriately cut and do the normal shift mods and pancake bearing.

Appreciate the responses guys. Yeah acting very strange. recent 10mill build. Has the pancake bearing and modded star. feeling very confident it is not the clutch or gears. doesnt seem like the normal bent shift shaft either. guess there is only one way to find out.

tell your buddy to take it easy on it.  Especially with a stock tranny in a 10mil...........you can only push something so hard once its been pushed beyond what it was engineered for.  Its either you have to build it RIGHT and look at things like the transmission, or you need to take it real easy on things that were never modified for the huge amounts of extra power your bike now makes.

thanks for response Jereme.

i believe tranny is not stock but not sure what components are. just difficult to diagnose because its not popping into neutral. its like a snowmobile in second gear. giving throttle it engages and when you let off or give a little throttle its nothing.

That sounds a lot like a clutch issue. The first things you mentioned sound like shift forks bent.
