Any gauge will work. Like I said if you can get a gauge with the threads pretty close to the length of the spark plug that's optimal. But if not your reading won't be that far off.

If you can warm the engine up then do it.

Check both cylinders.  If there is a 8-10 psi variance between the 2 or if it is low its time for a rebuild.  Usually the higher end gauges are more accurate.

So, if a compression test hasn't been done, it's a pretty safe assumption that a leakdown test has never been done since you have owned the bike. That would be the next step, after you do a compression test, even if you plan to tear it down.

 Well the banshee is under 2 years old. It's a 2011 model.

No, what I meant was its under 2 years old, so it shouldnt really be causing any issues engine wise yet, right?

 

I'm all for looking after my quad, I'd rather do something now than lose later by not doing it.

Also would a 14mm deep deep thread compression teseter give accurate results?   The br8es is 14mm diameter by 20mm depth right?
