Tommygunn Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 (edited) Is there a reason why you don't see many drag bikes running +2 a-arms? I'm building mine to do more then just drag race but i'd like to lower it and put some skinnies on it for those days i do. anyone else running longer arms on their drag bikes? Pasi S. Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I am not a pro, and my translation can be this and that, but... Narrow rear will give you a better traction, and you don´t want your front tires to be any wider than your rears. If your front is wider, your bike will rush right and left recklessly when you let of the throttle. Especially when the bike is lowered and strutted. I have had some close calls when I did that with my +2+1 A-arms and stock rear axle. (660 on asphalt) I couldn´t run even 300ft´s on asphalt when my rear wheels was flipped over. Didn´t have so much issues doing this on dirt and I had my suspension on it. Hope this helps. Quote
Tommygunn Posted December 3, 2012 Author Report Posted December 3, 2012 Thanks. I already have the +2 arms on it. Guess I should go ahead and order a +4 axle. Most of the races around here are on dirt/hard sand. Guess i should have stuck with the stock arms for drag racing. thanks for the advice Quote
camatv Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 pasi something is wrong in your alignment of the front end. it should not have an issue. i have ran skinny rear drag axle's with +2 a-arms in the past on 2 differnt bikes. Quote
Handyman Posted December 7, 2012 Report Posted December 7, 2012 I have +2+1 A-arms on m 421 PV motor with stock axle... I dune with it and also hill shoot when ever I want... I've had no issues with the bike getting squirlly on me when I let off the throttle... Quote
camatv Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 my first "drag" bike was a 1988 j-arm old paul turner national woods racer. i still have it and raced it all t he time with the +1 1/2 wide +2 forward woods j-arms. someday it will hit the sand again! Quote
Pasi S. Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 OK, I may have some issues with my front end, but then again.. I´m a noob. LOL! .. and I need to look it again to find out where the problem is. I have problems only, when my bike is lowered and strutted and I´m running on asphalt. My front strut-bars are 12" long. If my rear wheels are flipped over to give me a narrower rear end, I can´t run even 300ft on asphalt... even if my throttle is pinned. If I turn my rear wheels over for wider rear, I can do 1/4 (92.5mhp) no problem, but when I let off the throttle it´ll give me the hell. If my bike has front shocks, I don´t have any problems on any surface, even if my rear is narrow. Sorry my Fenglish. Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 I have +2+1 arms and a jj&a axle on my drag bike. No probs. Quote

You want about 6-8* for drag racing from my experience. Quote
Pasi S. Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 Thank you for a tip. I'm 100% sure that that's the problem. Quote
