band1t Posted September 24, 2012 Report Share Posted September 24, 2012 (edited) Hey all, Today I was trying to get the spindle free from the A arm So I put a nut on the threads of the ball joint and started beating it free with a hammer. Next thing I know the threads on the ball joint are smashed down. And I am not sure what my next step is. Can I get a lower ball joint for the a arm? Or do I have to hunt down a whole a arm? SpecialEd 05 Posted September 24, 2012 Report Share Posted September 24, 2012 Next time hit the spindle right where the tapered part goes thru - that shocks it loose with NO damage. Never hit the ball joint or threads or arm etc. I pulled my arms off today too. I started off with this method but still needed to hit the ball joint to break it free. But what I did was screw a nut half way on to the threads then screw a bolt into the other half and tightened it up. This way you're hitting the end of the stud and the threads are safe. Still needed the impacts around where the tapered part goes through. I've got all but the upper left off, that bolt is frozen solid inside the tube. Might be a grinder job.
