i got a 1995 banshee that was a rolling chassis and the motor out that needed a topend rebuilt. now looking through the parts i got, the electrical is missing the control unit, and the ignition switch(key). i will buy the control unit, but was wondering if i could still start my banshee when its all put together without the ignition key

Yes, you can, here's the shematic for when you get to it, just solder/crimp the 2 wires together and you wont need the key.

I just did this as well . My wiring harness is Like frankensteins monster , I'd really like to just make a new harness that eliminates all the bs and looks clean . It looks pretty simple , and having the factory plugs will help . Anyone done their own rebuild on the harness? Any pitfalls ( Atari baby!!!!! ) to look out for?

I got rid of everything extra on my 95. Just enough to run. I even got rid of the regulator. Just take your time with the harness and start taking out what you don't need. If you are not using lights you don't even need to hook up the two wires coming from your stator. The only switch I have left is the key switch.
