My banshee doesn't seem to have the top speed like it should. I am running the stock front and rear sprocket set up and have 18x11-10 Holeshot ITP tires in the rear. I get through all the gears very quickly and run out of top speed (I was racing my friends KX250F and he said it seemed I got through the gears way to quickly). I bought the quad with the tires so don't know for sure if its the small tires that are robbing me or something else? My idea is to up the front sprocket from the 14 thats on it to a 16. Wanted to see if others would try the same (or had the same problem) or had a better idea whats going on? Any advice or previous experience would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

stock gearing is set up for 20inch tires

Those 2 less inches in diameter must make a difference. You think going to a 16 tooth front sprocket would make it better than stock or the same?

With 18" tires. 17 41 for sure. Or 16 38 same thing. Trust me if u want run away speed. And u will still have plenty of bottom end..

Do you have any idea about the speed your getting with 16 and 17's?

With my 16 - 41 & 22" tires im getting 105-110. On a calculator. Never tried. And at 17 41 w/18" tires like u have. That will get u around 95-100 max pinned in 6th.

The only thing I am really worried about is loosing all the power to get up to the top speed. I do mostly short track racing and wooded area but I really want the option of running away from the pack on the long open roads. Will a 17 hold up to it or do you think a 15 or 16 would be better (I am leaning more towards the 17 though)?

16 minimum. I think u will like 17 better tho. Just my opinion. U wont loose power. U will jave to ride it a bit different with less shifting. But thats better in my opinion. All the gears will be longer. Try it. Onve i went to tall graring ill never go back down!!

So I order the 17 tooth and got it yesterday. Just to try it out I tried installing it but seems my chain is a bit too short for it even with the adjustment maxed out. Did you have to get a different chain and if so what size?

Unfortunatly I dont have extra chain lying around haha. I am thinking a 120 Link but am not 100% sure. If you dont wanna give up what link your running I understand but could you give me an idea if Im close or not? I know stock is a 104 link and the current sprocket set up I have now is 12 to 42 with stock chain and am at full adjustment tightened. I tried installing the 17 front sprocket on with the chain adjuster all the way slacked out but still wouldnt quite go so I am just throwing a guess out there for a 120 link to hopefully get be in the middle of the chain adjustment. Any ideas?

I have extra chain and just master link it together. Then once i found the gearing i liked i bought a full chain at that length.
