Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Nothing wrong with driveline clutches, that I can tell. They all have their pros & cons. I've used many different oils, gear oils & ATF. Most have been mentioned in this thread. I prefer synthetics for everything mentioned in 1st sentence. I'm currently testing ATI Super F ATF (20 weight), it's what I use in the drag car. ATI has five different weight ATF fluids available, hope to do some testing with the different weights. Thee one & only 1700camaro/STY! Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted January 19, 2025 Author Report Posted January 19, 2025 (edited) We tested the DMX on the streets of Mexico today. Still had the same clutch set-up from last test hits. We made the following adjustments for next weekend at the track. The clutch showed no heat in the plates as we figured it has too much base pressure at the launch. We took 20 lbs. of base pressure out. We also had a little slippage on the 3-4 shift & we added 15g/5g per arm of weight to 3 of the lock-up arms. We also replaced 4 frictions with new of the 8 frictions. Something we are trying new is adding dimpled plates (3) for slippage to start out with. SlowerThanYou Posted January 28, 2025 Author Report Posted January 28, 2025 Well, the initial hit of the clutch was pretty soft for track this past weekend. The DMX didn't really make a move until about 10'-15' off the start; it would move out then go on the wheely bar when the clutch hit! It will probably be good for the street hook up, but slow on the 60' for the track. Hopefully be testing in Mexico around the end of Feb. Need to get a Dragy to get some data in Mexico. I've ordered a billet Mattoon lock-up clutch cover for easy adjustments to the clutch in the future. Thee one & only 1700camaro/STY! 🙃 Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted February 7, 2025 Author Report Posted February 7, 2025 I have to give a shout out to the new (to the quad) transmission fluid we've been testing in the DMX. We've been using it in our race transmissions for 20 years, approximately. I don't know why I waited this long to use it in the quad! Anyway, the fluid is ATI Super F Synthetic Type F Racing Transmission ATF. We're using the 20 weight the same as our drag car. They also make the ATF in 50, 30, 20, 10 & 0 weights. While doing our clutch inspections we have found zero heat on the steals. We have also been hot lapping when testing with no cooling clothes or fans on the clutch cover. So far, I'm sold on using the ATF in the quad. It has always worked great in the drag car! Thee one & only 1700camaro/STY! 🫡 Quote

There's one or two what I call skid marks on 3 or 4 of the plates. The 3 dimpled plates I was testing have no heat marks. While we have not made any changes to the clutch tune, it's making more heat & slip! The reason being is, the clutch is seeing more load. Anytime you add more weight to the quad, in our case the rider it equals more load. This also happens when you change the gearing also. So, we added my other son weighing 290 lbs. & started with a final gear ratio of 2.06 then went to a 1.94. Of course, we got more load & slip. We are racing it this weekend & we changed the final gear to a 1.84. This is unchartered gearing for us. Anyway, I decided to add 10 lbs. of base pressure & added 3g of weight to 3 of the lockup arms. In anticipation of the added clutch slip. The arm weight is for the 5-6 shift that we've had all along but wasn't using 6th gear. FYI, the 1/8-mile heads up race we were getting ready for is cancelled. So, we are going back to 1/4-mile racing for now. Thee one & only 1700camaro/STY! 🤑 Quote
