Hello members....ok....as i was changing the clutch today, and turned the clutch cover over to let bolts stay in the holes, half of this piece fell out..i was stumped. then i look closely at the bottom of the casing on the same side and the other hallf was just laying there. i put em togeter and they form this. and i could tell they go together cause it was a perfect match..Has anyone ever seen this piece or know where it goes..?????

That clip goes behind the clutch basket and screws into the upper and lower case halves next to the clutch shaft. I've never really seen a need for it and don't currently run one. The bearing that it holds in has its own clip, so the part is really not necessary.

oh man what a quick response...thank u so much. i figured it had to be somehere hidden. have no idea why it woulda broke. also figured that it screwed in somewhere. then i was thinking if it was screwed in then the screws woulda held it in its place even if it did break. so u think some screws are off where it pose to go?

I believe it allows you to split the case hafls with out removing the clutch, and clutch basket.

which is totally retarded..

i had a guy bring me a case half last summer. most of it was torn apart and the clutch basket was still ont he shafts. they had beat on the cases till that clip snaped in half... WOW

yup....ive seen that before too cam.....made me laugh when i saw it.....the guy ran up to yamaha and the dealer actaully had one......think it was like $3 or something....i told him i didnt think it was needed although it couldn't hurt (couldnt remember if that bearing had a clip at the moment) so he grabbed it. asked him what he was hitting the cases with to get them apart......he said with a dead-blow hammer when the rubber mallet wouldn't work.... :shootself:

I would make sure to find the 2 screws before you put the motor back together. There is no need to put that piece back on I do not run it on any of my motors but you sure as hell do not want those 2 screws rolling around in there.

I'm not sure what the clip is for, but the way I figure is the little jap engineers who originally designed the RZ engine probably had a use for it, so I leave it in there. haha! Maybe its something that was needed on the old RZ engines or maybe the bearing in the RZ engine didn't have the clip on the outer race, so this little moon-shaped bracket was used to hold the bearing in place. I've built them with and without this clip and it doesn't see to make any difference.
