acroadam Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 I bought a couple quarts from auto zone, and it says it's for wet clutch. I was wondering if anyone else has used it? And if it's safe to use cause it says four stroke on it Quote
volcrano Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 itll be fine.its actually a better oil.4 strokes need the off road oil for its properties.it doesnt break down in extreme heat like others can.regular oil can foam up,and thats why the off road oil is what 4 strokes need to run. as a 4 stroke,the engine oil is the whole system as in top and bottom end.those fuckers get hot hot.u ever seen the header pipe at night.u could start fires with it.literally. 252wheelieking Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) This is all I have every use on the shee I currently have. It is good quailty oil & I change it about twice a year. It only cost $4.79 a quart at my local advance auto parts store. To remind you, I ride my shee alot & hard plus the oil still isn't broken down when I change it every six months. I change it then for piece of mind. I use to run AMS oil & that's good oil too, but I can't beat this quailty of oil for the price. I'm sticking with valvoline 10w 40 motorcycle oil because it's CHEAP for #1 & last a longtime & convenient. Edited October 18, 2011 by 252wheelieking Quote
nastyracing Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 even better then that is VR1 either 20/50 or straight 50 weight i run and was told to run that in my 450r ect. race car. its semi synthetic and works for wet clutches. goes on sale at auto zone for like 273 and i buy cases of it. I may be wrong, but synthetic oils have friction modifiers in them and I heard that is bad for a wet clutch and makes it wear. Quote
springer Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 something like that which is for wet clutches will be better than running atf. i was always told to run atf atf atf and never really had a reason to question it. someone told me to switch to a wet clutch oil, cant remember what i got, but its from o'rielly's. waaaay better. after a weekend of good riding, its still red as compared to atf which would turn black after only a few hours of riding. That is not correct. You can have a fully synthetic oil that does not have friction modifiers and is ok to use with a wet clutch. An example Mobil 1 4T 10W-40 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Racing_4T_10W-40.aspx# What you can look for on the back of the container to see if it is "wet clutch approved" is the spec for wet clutches and it is JASO MA or JASO MA2. There may be oils out there that do not have this spec on them but are still ok to use. The manufacturer may not have tested the oil for that specification.
