Ray J Neal Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Hey guys, everything finally came today so I can finish the stance of the Shee. Should I sit on the banshee to have the suspension at ride height and ratchet strap the grab bar to the axle, then lay out the chain and cut? Or should this be done with the suspension relaxed, or completely unloaded? Sorry guys.. -Ray Quote
Dunes98 Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Just fit the chain with it all unloaded. Then adjust to lenth with your carrier adjusters. Use a chain brake, they make the job very easy. Just my two cents anyway. Quote

So you ordered new a-arms? Extended swing arm? Aftermarket suspension? I don't have a clue where your trying to go with what you posted. I assume your asking how to put a chain on your bike? If that is the case, and you have stock suspension all you need is a factory length chain with the suspension relaxed and sitting just like it would regularly. Then adjust the tension by sliding the bearing carrier forwards or backwards-- IF -- You are dealing with stock parts. I have no idea, maybe someone else does.... Like the title said, I need to cut the chain, how am I doing it? Regardless of what I added, I have an overize chain. I figured that was obvious. But yes, it has a +10" swinger, and a drop. Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 I cut my chains with a 4" grinding wheel. I usually put it in the vice. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Really? You don't know how to break a chain? If only they made a tool that could grab the link and press the pin out. They could even call it a chain breaker. Maybe they could make it affordable, too. Like under $20. And then reputable places could sell it like summitracing and rockymountainatv.com and such. Quote
Azryll Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 You can order one offline or if you have a local bike shop you should be able to order a chain breaker really cheap. I think I paid like 13 bucks for mine. If you dont want to buy anything you can use a grinder like Loco said. Just make sure you don't cut it to short cause its a bitch to add a link. Also make sure your cutting the right link (should be taking off the outter link so you are left with a inner link on each side to you can put the master link on). Quote

If only some people knew how to read as good as they knew how to be a condescending smart ass. My question was if I cut it (with a grinder, place in a vise and drive the pin out) with the suspension at rest, suspended or loaded. This will affect tension, you know. Anyone, for the rest of you who gave decent advice, I got it finished. Quote
