Instead of destroying the shoutbox i figured id start a thread about it. I need some new rear axle bearings, and i cant seem to find any reason "All Balls" or "Pivot Works" are any better than eachother. This may be opening a can of worms, much like "what oil is best" but thats not what im asking. My question is though, has anyone had any luck with either brand, or are oem bearings the best way to go? Most of the reviews i read say they do not last and either brand is junk. :cheers:

The grease zerk is a great idea, but is totally useless if you have sealed bearings. All you would be doing is packing the center section of the carrier with grease. If you want to make this idea work, make sure you remove the inside seal from your bearings before you install them, so the grease in the center of your carrier can actually get into the bearings.

I have also used All Balls in the past with good results. I used them in my banshee that I recently built from ground up and I have ran them two years now in my LTR 450 with zero issues. Also used them in a TRX 250R that I built too (sold it and wish I wouldv'e kept it :cry: ). If you're using the factory carrier I would deffinately suggest a grease zerk be installed along with the anti- sieze as mentioned above!

OOps, my bad, forgot to mention that little detail about grease seals on bearings. Someone shoot me , please. :shootself:

 

LOL, I did the same thing. Greased the shit out the center section for months and had a bearing crap out on me. I didn't realize my mistake until I tore the rear end apart and saw the bearings were sealed.

Thanks for all the input. Going to be taking shit apart today for rebuild. I might try the zerk thing, but dunno about taking the bearings apart. I will definitely use anti-seize lube in the axle spacer.

just take a screwdriver and pry the rubber seal out of the inside if the bearing, it will take 2 seconds!

 

Yep! I took a small drywall screw and screwed it into the seal, then used the screw like a handle to pry and pull the seal out of the bearing. Its an easy 5min job. If you have the rear end apart, do it! Drill/tap for the zerk with it all torn apart so you can blow any metal shavings out of the carrier.

install the greas fitting while ya have it apart..will save you money in the longrun.. btw advance auto parts has had them in stock b4..if you find someone that knows how to cross reference them

cheap axle bearings fail. alot. i went through 3 sets in one year until i spent the money on good ones.

 

 

 

as for the grease zerk, put one on the pivot too.
