rox10h Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 hey guys. aint been on in here in a while, again. hope everyone's cool. I just had my engine back from a rebuild, the crank big end went and shattered a piston. so new pistons, cylinders [which were bored], rebuilt crank, new gasket set and a head later.. ...and i still have problems! the first one is the left side fatty pipes refuse to warm up when the bike is idling even after 10mins or so..the right side by this time is boiling hot. pressure seems to be equal out of both silencers, smoke also seems to be equal. secondly the carb seems to be rubbing on the gearbox housing [excuse my lack of terminology]. when i change gear or engage the clutch the carb moves and tilts slightly due to this. could this be why my left side doesnt warm up? when i bought the quad i was that it had oversized carbs. even so, before the engine went wrong, it ran fine and i never saw the carbs move at all, nor did i notice they rubbed on the gearbox housing below them? [only seems to rub on the left side too!] one thing i will say is i have not checked the timing yet as i dont have a strobe handy till wednesday..could this also be a reason why the left side isnt getting hot? the head is piping hot..as is the right side..so cylinders n pistons seem to be going ok.and it seems that im getting a spark on both sides. plug leads have also been swapped around too :/ confused! hope its nothing major ive waited a month and a half for this to come back. appriciate all your input guys Irfan Quote
rox10h Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 here's some pics of problem number 2 regarding the carb rubbing on what seems to be the clutch or gearbox housing? pressing the clutch causes the carb to move and tilt slighty. Also noticed that the big rubber around the carb is not 100% tight..theres no jubilee clip around it. might also be why left side isnt heating..? let me know your thoughts Quote

Phelps Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 boiling hot means too much fuel...... either a stuck float, or float lvl being too high. i would tear the carbs down and clean/rebuild if needed. also you might want to clip 1/4 of the plug wires off and screw the boots back on. the right pipe is either loading up with fuel due to either too much fuel, or not burning the fuel coming in. bansheeboi Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 phelps is right also you might wanna put some clamps on the intake boot and carbs boots also that will stop a lot of your movement also anyone else wanna add to this feel free Quote
Jereme6655 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 i wanna know why your letting a fresh rebuild sit for 10 minutes idling when your not supposed to let them idle during break-in..... Quote

Coupelx Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 i wanna know why your letting a fresh rebuild sit for 10 minutes idling when your not supposed to let them idle during break-in..... i heat cycle mine twice for a few minutes each and then beat the shit out of it. seems to work fine. mine wont idle for 10minutes though without overheating. RZBansheeMan Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 The carbs you have on there are quite a bit bigger then stock. That is why the float bowl on the left carb is hitting the clutch arm. You have a few options... 1. get stock stock carbs and new intakes that are correct for the stock carbs. 2. maybe get some reed spacers to get the carb back a lil from the clutch arm. 3. get a billet intake, those will get your carbs up and back away from the clutch arm I'm kinda wondering if the way that left carb is rubbing on that arm, with all the vibration, isn't causing the fuel to foam up. Jereme6655 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 i don't like to let my bike sit and idle even after the motors been broken in. i do know that my builder wants me to break my motor in by not letting it idle during break in but to keep blipping the throttle until there is heat in the motor.....then take it for easy accel/decel rides til its fully broke in.
