Banshee Chad Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Ok guys, I sometime have my stock silencers rigged up to run with my cpi inframes when i go to the mountains (just to stay spark arrested). dont really get into it to hard enough there that I notice a diff. I ride mostly dunes. My question is if i use the stinger tubes from my cpi, cut off the stock silencer stinger and weld the stock silencer to the cpi stinger so it fits nice and looks good, do you guys think there will be much performance loss using those silencers over the cpi ones? I took the end cap off the stock silencers, and it doesnt look like there is much in there to hold it back. but i dont know the detailed internals. Please let me know what u think. STINKYDELUXE Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 if you look at my pic you will see Procircut silencers. I don't think it hurt it much but I don't think I would do it with Alcohol. Quote
06specialedition Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I would imagine it shouldn't make that big of a difference. Try it out and let us know. I've never heard anyone doing it Quote
bad 350 shee Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 we tryed it with fattys and it ran like pure shit Quote
RZBansheeMan Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 The stock silencer cans are pretty restrictive..I had made my own, spark arresting screens out of stainless steel drain screens. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 does anybody even know if its legal to make your own spark arrestors? i know that people do it just to cheat past the rangers or dnr real quick.....but usually the screens burn out or fall out fast. im talkin making something like RZ did which looks damn good and like its gonna hold up... jbooker82 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 does anybody even know if its legal to make your own spark arrestors? Not unless you have the moeny to file the paperwork and pay for the testing to get it approved. The only thing with those screens is you only flowing exhaust through the screen the diameter of the perforated core. Normal spark arrestors use the entire screen for more flow. Plus those screens wont pass if they check. They normally use a landscaping flag and stick it in the pipe. The screen looks like it is to large and it will go right through. If you get all through this then they check to see if the pipe is stamed with the USFS Approved stamp WITH the spark arrestor #. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 and this is why i kinda hate my power core-2 silenecers. They keep my ass from being able to go to Silver Lake. And they always keep me lookin over my shoulder while out on the damn trails... Quote

And they always keep me lookin over my shoulder while out on the damn trails... That is easy enough fix. Get some Turbine Core 2's. They are a 100% USFS approved spark arrestor. They also are a much better designed spark arrestor. They done use a screen. There are fins in side the silencer that spin the exhaust like a tornado. That forces pieces of carbon to smash against the sides of the chamber. A USFS approved spark arrestor has to ethire catch particles of carbon or break them up. If you need them to be quite get fmf Q's they are spark arrested and quiet. FMF Turbine Core 2's sound like regular powercore's The Q http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/ATV/113 Turbine Core II http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/ATV/116 Quote
RZBansheeMan Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 I did this specifically for Silver Lake !!! and guess what...I have had this thing up there a few times with multiple dune to parking lot to dune entrance's and never was questioned about it.. The one time the DNR officer had his broken off piece of flag stick, that was used to check spark arrested silencers, walked back to the back of mine and went to check my silencers... he looked at it a lil puzzled and then said I was good to go and waived me in. Just saying it has worked for me, not guarantying the same success for everybody else. This cost me less then $ 5.00 to do, sooo do what you want. Mike Quote
