Trails, dunes, drags, etc and I haven't seen him have a problem. Quote

Do you find yourself shifting into neutral alot hten back up to 1st? Quote
wacko2000 Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Yesterday was my first ride on the New Extreme duneable. N down 1-4 5&6 I have never ridden a bike with a override, so it was all super new to me. we did alot of trail riding, some hill climbs, fast and slow riding through the street etc. I thought i was going to have a problem with the N down thing, but i found that to be the easiest thing to get used to..lol You will find yourself clutching 4x times more than usual, I was really trying not to backload but i did do it a few times. Like i said, it was my first time, I was alittle uncomfortable at first, but i got better and better through the day. I would say, that if you ONLY ONLY trail ride, I would not go with a override. But the occasional trail ride would beat ya up that bad Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 Being that this was a drag bike I really haven't had enough time on it to shift into neutral looking for first. But I'm transforming it back, couldn't stand it just sitting till the weekend. I'm throwing the shocks back on, going with shearer inframes and ditching the oof's. And gonna put in some pump gas domes, race gas is super high, way to high to do any recreational riding. But I absolutely love how easy it is to shift. Quote
okbeast Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Well maybe the n-down thing wouldn't be so bad after all. Quote
RagunCajun Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Yeah I don't see a reason not to have n-down Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 Yeah I don't see a reason not to have n-down Curious, how so how do u feather the throttle on a wheelie if we can't backload? Referring to your pic. Just not clear on some things. Some people say can't excessively backload it. Some say don't. Some say it's ok. What is excessive? Quote

What is excessive? to me excessive would be dropping it a gear low enough for the back tires to skid a bit on decelleration. imo a working duneable override is the shiznite in a trail bike. the extreme dunable i had was awesome up to the moment it popped. just stay on the pipe, control it with your brakes and throttle and bang the gears. makes for an interesting ride. Yeah everyone's opinion or idea of backloading is different. Everyone I've told that I'm gonna actually dune ride a duneable says I'm crazy, guess we'll see how it holds up I've heard of more than 1 guy that has supposedly duned one, they either don't ride as hard as I do, or the tranny's are holding up. AKheathen Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 well, everybody considers backloading differently, but i just see it as putting a reverse load on the trany. if i'm not mistaken, the biggest difference in a duneable is that the gears are not helical cut, so you can put a backwards load on it and not have it trying to force the fork out. the other form of bacloading is switching the load back and forth frequently. with overrides, the engagement dogs are really far apart so they have less chance of hitting a spot that they won't mesh. because of this, changing load directions lets the gears pick up enough rotating mass and innertia to slam the other side of the dogs really hard. whoop, gotta go....... bbcmudtruck Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 So whats the verdict? Are the extreme dunables worth having or not? Quote

I used mine in the dunes for more than a year without any trouble. We run oval races in the dunes, rip the long hills, everything. I started out pussy-footing it, but that lasted about 10 minutes. I do not intentionally beat on it, but I certainly do not baby it either... Quote
