Spark Plugs

I'm not a spark plug expert so here's my question:

 

I just bought a new set of plugs for my 06 Shee. The plugs I took out are BR8ES, and the new ones are B8ES. What does the "R" stand for? Can I safely run these or did the shop give me the wrong ones??

The "R" means resistor. You can run ether or plugs you mentioned. The "R" plugs use a 5k ohm ceramic resistor in the spark plug to quiet down ignition noise generated during sparking.

Stick with the BR8ES plugs, the 8 heat range is the correct heat range for almost all Banshees. As for the resistor, Yamaha started recomendind it on the later bikes. They said it would prevent problems with the CDI box, I don't know if it does or not, but they don't cost any more than the non resistor plugs. Another reason for the resistor plugs is the TrailTech computers seem to require the resistor to make the tach function correctly, other tachs might be the same way.

No, The 8's are hotter. Lower number is a hotter plug. NGK is backwards.

It's Just that on a unaltered stock motor on GAS. There's no need to worry about swapping plugs. Only when u start to turbo And add meth should it be considered. Someone correct me if I'm off on this.

Forgot to add you were DEAD on with the trailtech. My tach went haywire and the vapor would shutoff under wot using the b8es. I had to swap to the br8es and not a prob since.

Like I said, it is a myth on a stock type motor. I tied to put a Vapor on my 89 and even with BR8ES plugs I had problems with it resetting. I took the bike to TrailTech and they could not make it work either. They replaced everything, sensors wiring and even the unit itself and tried every trick they knew of, but could not make it quit resetting. They ended up giving me a complete Vector set up and one of their crimper/wiring kits AND I got to keep the Vapor.

BR8ES for running Gas

BR9ES for running Alky/Methanol gapped tighter since the added fuel tends to wash out the spark.

 

R = Resistor - recommended for stock CDI/ignition setups.

 

You can buy spark plug caps that have the resistor built into the cap, then you don't need to buy the R type plugs, you could just run B8ES or B9ES plugs.
