clean out pipes of carbon buildup

So i am getting my pro circuit pipes chromed so i decided to clean out the carbon build up inside of them. when i took the header pipe off there was about 1/8 of hard carbon build up around where it attaches to the jugs i was amazed.is this normal?i have been soaking the inside of the pipe with solvent. any other tools or chemicals i can clean all the oil and carbo out with? i would hate for them to contaminate their chrome tank i might never see my pipes again!!!!

might try and burn it out with a torch, just dont get one spot to hot, would hate to see ya melt a hole in your pipes, works really good on compressor housing and exhaust housings on turbos, so i dont see why it wouldnt work in a pipe, if you can get access to a media blaster after you get it hot it will come right off.

I have a buddy that's real big into vintage mopeds and he will just set them on the charcoal grill overnight. Seams to work pretty well for him, I've never personally tried it though.

so heat seems to be the way to go!!!!! but is it normat to have that much build up around the exaust port? i bought the pipes used so i dont even know how old they are .

Oven cleaner! Just make sure not to get any on the chrome as it states in the instructions.

I have heard that you can put solvent like oven cleaner in the pipe and then put a handful of nuts in there and shake the pipe up and let it soak and shake it up periodically. Makes sense just make sure you count what goes in and comes out. I plan on trying it real soon and will report back how it goes

this is after shaving 1/8 of a layer of hard ass carbon build up in my pipe.

this is after fillinf the pipe with industrial oven cleaner and putting a space heater on it to heat it up.

i donot reccomend doing this to ur pipes if ur not going to get them refinished. do you gut think this is good enough to go to the chromer now????? i think i probably will gain like 35 horse power now lmao j/k.

Wow that is impressive. But I have a ?. Why cant you just put expanding rubber plugs in to keep that crap from coming out? Dont get me wrong, I think cleaning that carbon out is a great idea but surely those plugs would be fine in the dip tank and would be a better option than welding caps to seal them off.

You can get a long piece of metal wire and kink the wire all up put it on a drill and let it whip around in there. works mint.

Right, I didnt say you did. My statment was to seal the pipes off when they go in the tank. The other way would be to weld caps on them. If you plugged them then you would not have the issue of the carbon contaminating the tank or not. Chances are your not gonna get it all out, even if you do the shop may still say no. But if they are sealed, they may be ok with it.

dropped off the pipes yesterday they looked at them and took them. i think the soak them in a acid before plating.

Look up "decokeing 2 stroke pipes" on the net. You heat the pipe up with a toarch and tap it to knock the carbon loose. It will damage a chrome finish but if yiur getting them redone why not. Just don't dint the pipe.
