FrankieSquid Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 I came upon this pic here and i was thinking of doing it myself. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has done this. I should be doing this in about a week. It looks like it is grooved like the holeshots. Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 those tires are junk. i dont see how putting that little groove in there is going to make any difference. Quote
bigborebanshee Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Believe it or not it makes a huge difference.I had a set of razor 2's that i did that to and it was night and day difference. Those razors are to fargin hard IMO,Siping the tread on them gives them a little more flex...still a crappy tire tho. Quote
tecateman Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 looks like those grooves would pack up with dirt to me. Quote
BigMatt Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 you mite be able to take those to like a discount tire, and have the grooves cut into them. They cut a grid across the hole tire, they did it to my jeep tires helps stop faster and gives better grip in snow also can even help in hydro planning, Quote
90lxsleeper Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 it does help alot.......i have a set of razr 2 that i took and cut every other row out of and they hook awesome Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 it does help alot.......i have a set of razr 2 that i took and cut every other row out of and they hook awesome he didnt cut every other row out. he just put a groove down the middle of each row right on the lug.. but yes, cutting every other row of lugs out on a tire will improve traction. FrankieSquid Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Yeah i thought every other row of knobbies would be more of a improvement than just cutting little slits. Im going to start off with the slits and show feedback and if it sucks i will go with every other row of lugs. Quote
90lxsleeper Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 i will try to post some pics of mine.....but dunno if i can figure out how Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 i will try to post some pics of mine.....but dunno if i can figure out how you can use an outside image hosting place or you can use your hq gallery. either way, you will need to use the image location and use the image tag located above. its the one that looks like a picture, to the left of the envelope. trail rider Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 im guessing thats chris borich's LTR in that pic?? grooving the tires like that is very very popular in XC/gncc racing. I got a used set of razrs from bill ballance that are grooved exactly like that on a 400ex. when done right, they let the knobs flex and help a ton with traction on hardpack, like the slick ass ruts that develop during a cross country race, and especially with the angled grooves in the side knobs. they help keep the tires digging in the corners instead of sliding sideways. if you ever rode on both a regular and grooved set of tires like these, you would deffinatly notice a difference. and as far as the grooves getting packed with mud/dirt, yea they do, but as long as the tires are spinning, they're gonna stay cleaned out. locogato11283 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 all i know is that for the price and hype of those tires you should not have to groove them to make them work better. they should fucking come like that. personally, id stay away from junk tires like those. Quote
zachmw Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 im guessing thats chris borich's LTR in that pic?? That is Chris's LTR, I'm looking at that same pic in Dirt Wheels mag right now. Quote
