robert.b.west Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I thought it was 98db because the last time i was up there they were checking sound when we decided to go home so i asked them to check my bike. I made special end caps that mount in my toomey sparkys i believe it was 96db or 97db but without them i would guess i am around 102 to 103. They are starting to check alot more stuff than they used to. Just this past year they pulled over my two cousins and i and they checked the vin numbers on our quads to make sure they were registered. Turns out we are from ohio and two of us had bought our quads in michigan so it showed the previous owners( good thing we remembered there names) they have no record of out of state registrations so they just let us go but i can see how people would go up there with an unregistered quad and have alot of problems. MikeNick Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 The DNR is starting to get carried away with regulations. I got stopped last year, granted I was duning my drag bike with CPI oof's... They stopped me for noise and im like "ya no shit I'm not guna pass dick head, you know that, just let me thru!" After talking to like 5 officers I talked them into letting me in. Seriously, if they check you and you are over 96 db... Its over. Pack your shit and leave, I mean how do they expect us to do anything more than new packing and sparkies? We are trying to follow the law, its just the nature of the beat to be loud. Personally, i think 4 strokes are louder and more annoying than any banshee out there, and they hardly seem to get stopped.. Sorry for the novel, but I guess I'm a little bitter about silver lake getting tighter and tighter every year.... Good luck to everyone this year! Those damn NATURE NAZIS... Quote
JasonsBanshee Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 So if I go up there with my CPI inframes and get tested, will I pass the sound law? I'd be ticked if I drive 7 hours and get turned away at the gate. Quote

I'd be ticked if I drive 7 hours and get turned away at the gate. there are a few things to pay attention to when going through the gate 1. don't drive up to the gate when there is someone standing buy the picnick table with out a quad there. 2. drive up when there is a quad there (they usually won't make you wait) 3. keep your quad at as low of RPM (as quiet)as possible when going up to the gate. 4. load your quad in the back of your truck (you will need an ORV for your truck as well)and drive the truck out to the dunes. 5. drive through the gate when no one is at the table. 6. the more times you go back and forth the more likely you will get checked. hope this helps. WOW, I'm beginning to wonder about this trip now. My luck, I'll get my bike all ready for the dunes by buying tires and sparkies then get tested and turned away after a 7 hour drive. Sounds a little risky to me. Quote

I totally agree with these. We never get stopped when we go up just by doing this. Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 anyone tested any shearer inframes or cpis for decibels with fresh packing? Curious on what they put out? Quote
Havok248 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Okay so im 17 (have a valid drivers license but planned on going with just me and a buddy and we are both under 18 will that be a problem?) My banshee is in no way shape or form registered or titled.. I know i can get an ORV but is that all i will need? I have a strange feeling i will have a hard time getting shearer inframes to pass (how do i go about making them quiet enough and where do i get sparkys for them?) Ill make sure i have a flag. What am i missing and please if anyone could answer my questions i would really appreciate it. Quote
Havok248 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Oh and i forgot to ask.. If i sticker my truck could i just drive all our stuff somewhere and unload to make things easier? Quote
Wheelman Chassis Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 yep thats what i do, my yfz with the drag pipe is 100+db, and i have no clue what my cpi oofs are... im going to make a rig to carry both my quads on my truck, they will still check for sparkys but not sound. ive never been checked for sound in the last 4 years, and ive even gone threw with the drag pipe on, just make sure somone is getting checked and pull through. hope this helps, you guys should go on the banshee hq weekend .. I have been stopped 1 time out of all the times I have been up there where they did check my vin number to make sure it was registered to me. Quote
