Velislide Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Wonder if anyones ever thought of fabbing something up like tis? Basically, you would take the stock swinger, plus another stock swinger, and build something that would look like this. You would have a double sprocket on the original axle, and space the 2nd one out to match up, for another chain to attatch. I doubt it would be really that hard to make, and under hard acceleration, the front end would lift but not risk flipping back, as the furthest to the rear shock would be soft enough to compress under acceleration. For winter, you could wrap a track on each side, if needed? Something I came up with at work haha, bored. Quote
99bansheeboy Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 i got an extra stock swinger if you want to buy it to make your contraption LOL.... Quote
Velislide Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 Haha, I need to finish building my banshee before I start on something like this! I'll be fabbing something up for sure later on though like this I think. Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 i dont see why it wouldnt work, but you are talking about a lot of extra turning weight. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 It wont turn worth a damn, with two SOLID axles on it it is going to want topush the front end straight ahead. If you add tracks it is going to be even worse. If you are going to do this, I would adapt a swingarm and differential off a utility bike so you can have each side on the rear turn at different speeds so you could turn. Quote

I would adjust the rear tires so they dont much pressure on the ground, I would make some type of adjustable linkage so you can increase and decrease the ground pressure. Also I'd have skis in the front in the winter, dual carbides on each. Mainly this was meant for winter use. Quote
MikeNick Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 That's alot of work to just be able to ride your quad in the snow...Pointless.... Quote
87sheerips Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 Cool thought, fab it up and let us know how it works! Quote
AKheathen Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 well, if you have the means to fab this up, then ditch the swingers altogether, aside from the pivot tubes, and fab it from scratch. metal supply shops have a decent range of transpotable stock in the scrap bin/yards. just get some squarestock, tube, plate, or whatever you need and start fabing. you are going to want to shorten the main swinger considerably, since it will give alot more traction, and your design eliminates the normal shortfall of trying not to roll backwards. mabey use a trunion style aux. swinger and tensioner for the chain. as for track parts, look into mattraxx systems. good luck Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Or...I'll sell you a 89' 500 polaris fan cooled or a 85' 600 tripple and you can ride the 500 in the snow and save the 6oo to ride in the sand. For the price I'll give them to you at...if they break, you can just walk away. You can buy sleds newer than your banshee in every part of the country that will cost less than your custom arm. Heck you can get a running sled for less than the cost of a track. But if you wanna fab something up...go ahead. Everybody loves a cool "Road Warrior" Monster Garage build. Paint it green when your done, it'll look alot like a john deer gator. Quote
Velislide Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 Or I could just go jump on my 01' Poo "800" which is dyno'd at 173 hp on 93 octane. Obviously I wouldnt be doing this as a sled replacement, geezus lol some people I guess. Quote
FrankieSquid Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 i got an extra stock swinger if you want to buy it to make your contraption LOL.... LOL Contraption. Sounds like a good idea, Im sure it should work. Like Gato said lots of rotating mass bro. Quote
