Just rebuilt my topend, does it need silicon?

Hey, i just put back my cylinders with the new Tusk racing gasket set i bought. When my friend came he asked me if i added silicon to the gasket as well, and when i said no he was surprised and told me i should have, and its really important to do that.

 

Do you guys think its really worth to add silicon on top of the gasket set ive got?

I wouldn't use silicone, I would recommend some spray on gasket sealer.

i dont add it to the gaskets just the head bolts i put alittle locktit on thats about it

i just used gaskets on all 3 of the top ends i put together and it worked great i just put together and torque the head bolts i believe to 16 or 18 ft lbs

As long as the gasket surfaces are clean and the gasket is brand new, you dont need any sealant or silicon.

i use to use some gasket sealer yamaha made, i use some stuff i got from jeff at fast , now. cant remember the name.... but have never used silicon

I usualy use copper coat on the base gaskets of ported motors on the sides where making the transfers larger has made the gasket surface thinner. Other than that i never use it unless the surfaces are rough.
