broseph Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 hey guys I am brand new to the site. I have surfed around here a lot but never posted before. I recently just did a top end rebuild and completely forget to oil the piston skirts when I put it back together. Is this really bad? I cant believe I forgot to do this......Do I need to take it all back apart and oil them or will it be ok? Quote
lmaloch Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I would think you would be ok putting a little oil down the spark plug holes and slowly turn the motor over a few times, with no plugs in it. Is it ideal....no but better than tearing it apart again. Yes the rings will wipe the oil but some will get past. Of course if the motor has already been run this way there is nothing to be done. I started it up and ran it for about 1 minute just to see if it would start. Why would it not help to do it now? Quote

I did put a little oil on the rings though. not sure if that matters. Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 If it were me, i would atleast take the head off and get some premix oil you use, and when the pistons are down as low as they can go(BDC) coat the cyl walls a lil with the oil with your finger. Then move the kicker a few times slowly up and down so it gets it in the rings and what not and you will be fine IMO. Mabey oil it like this 2 times. wont hurt anything Quote
lmaloch Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Since you ran it already, you got oil on the cylinders and pistons from the gas oil mix washing over them. Only reason to oil the cylinders is so that you don't have a dry startup. Now that is not an issue. Personally i wouldn't pull it apart but that is personal preference. Quote
