what is the downside to a stroker motor

Recommended Posts

or more specificly, if I was to do a 4 mil stroke, what is the bad things that are common?

I heard it eats top ends and you have to rebuild them on a constant basis.

do the pros out weigh the cons?

is it really worth the extra 1G to go that route?

or should I just do a GSXR 1000 motor swap and be done with it?

every engine can and will have its problems. to say a 4mm is worse off than any other motor is a little off. a well maintained motor thats put together right can last years.

thats stupid. whoever told you that should be kicked in the balls.

yes. more power = more fun. 4mm motors can be very reliable.

by the time you buy a crank, proper porting, carbs, pipes, intakes etc. youre looking at over 1g.

that motor wont fit for shit in a banshee frame. stick to the banshee motor. itll be faster and a lot less hassle.

GSXR motor will fit in a banshee, but the cost seems to be phenomenal.

I was thinking if I do ported cylinders and rebuild a top end, why not just go 4MM stroker?

I guess at that point, I need to check into bigger carbs and jetting.

what about my pipes? will my pro circuits still run right?

I dont want to get too crazy on the setup, it is just now the speed bug has bit me I want more....

just as a rule of thumB:

Stroker for torque/hill climbs,

BigBore for power everywhere.

Both for Ludacris Speed.

Loss of bottom-end power for both is debatable, however if you have 10+ hp gain on mid and top who cares about 2-3hp on low end..?

If money is an issue you want to ask yourself: what is broken? If the crank needs to be rebuilt anyways then your spending 1/2 the $ anyways, midas well go for it. If your top end needs refresh then go for the porting. If your sleeve is toast/on last bore then go for big bore.

My advice is do 1 at a time so you can feel the difference of each. Best non-bolt on power is good porting. Start there if you already have pipes, filter. timing, gearing, tires etc.

chains and sprockets wear out faster and you will piss off some of your friends with the added roost.
