278 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) Right now the only thing done to the clutch or tranny is new frictions plates and steels and and I have 3 HD and 3 stocks springs, I want to mod the shift star... how much material do I take off and can I get some pics to show what it'll look like after or even before and after pics... Also what else can I do to improve shifting and the clutch, such as easy pull lever or something? I ride trails and MX with ocassional hill climb or drag race. Edited May 3, 2009 by 278 Quote
scottd480 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I'd like to know how others have modded their shift star as well; getting ready to do this mod to my banshee also. Any tips and suggestions? Quote
278 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Ive like seen how they look kind of, but I just want to know how much you can take off safely and see a few pics to refresh my memory, Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Just make it look like this: Note that one of the lobes is not modified... Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Heres my old star i modded my self and sold to a guy on here as a had a cascade star already. Also here is my modded shift shaft i did also. I also run a shift pro Arm with roller bearing and easy spring. All great mods. Good luck! Quote
2001Stroker Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 I did mine on a bench grinder. I went a little crazy, and did the one between 1st and 6th. It doesn't matter though, since the roller won't go over it anyway. Just don't do the bottom right lobe in my pic. If you accidentally do, it's not a big deal. Quote
278 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks guys, so it looks like a new clutch lever, shift star mod and pancake bearing are the only things I really need... I considered a hydraulic clutch lever but loco and another guy didnt suggest it, they said just go with an easy pull type lever Quote

I considered a hydraulic clutch lever but loco and another guy didnt suggest it, they said just go with an easy pull type lever There was only one hydro clutch for a while. Magura. That's the one that comes stock on the KTM's. Very nice, and super easy to pull. The only problem that I could see with them is, if you're out riding and the hydro line gets caught on somthing or burns on the ehxaust, you're stranded. Now, Streamline makes a hydro clutch that looks much nicer. It comes with ASV lever, and a stainless braided hose, with clear PVC coating over it, and is cheaper than the other one. It's called the Streamline ATV Billetanium. I'm thinking about getting it myself. http://www.streamlinebrakes.com/pages/prod...ame=Billetanium Quote
blanco Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 so what exactly are you doing by grinding the lobes down? and what does a non modded shift shaft look like. thanks  Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 I was wondering about the shift shaft mod also. Anyone have any before and after pics? Quote
