02stampede Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 I am looking at an '03 banshee that does not run but is very clean. Its probabloy a 7 out of 10 bike. It has compression in the right side only. Asking price is $1500. Would this be an okay buy? (I can do the work myself) Or could I be getting into a mess. Im a dirtbike guy and want to get into quads too. I thought I would ask here first. Thanks. Quote
CoreyReid Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 first off, welcome to the HQ you should be able to learn anything you need to about a banshee off this site. Everyone has helped me tremendously. as for the bike, I can't give you everyone's opinion if that is a great deal or not, i purchased my 03 for 1200 running, but i have never seen another 03 for less than 3000 in Nova Scotia good luck. sandman81 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Welcome to HQ. If you've worked on your dirtbike, assuming it's a two stroke, there is really not much of difference. Banshee are simple to work on. When i stared to work on my banshee, i didn't have a clue about working on two strokes, haven't had a problem yet. Now about your future buy. What does it have done to it? How much compression we talking about, because that could determine if it will need a complete top end. 130 psi for sea level down to 100 psi for 5000 above sea level. If you can take the plug off,get a flash light, look down the cylinder for scaring. Or it can be the reed. New complete topend rebuild piston kit can cost 180, If you need to do cylinder repair that can cost 190-250 depanding on damage. If you get it post pics. Good luck Quote
2001Stroker Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Welcome to the site. If it has no compression on the left side, I would offer him no more than $1,000. See where it goes from there. Quote
official_style Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 i just paid $1700 for a non running 97 banshee, a 98 blaster and a 95 yz125. i put a stator in the banshee and it runs perfectly now. i wont pay over 700 for non running bikes, unless i know they are modded the fuck out, and have parts to make up the value. i paid 1400 for a very clean 01 with fmf pipes, that one needed nothing. 02stampede Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 Thanks for the welcome and the replies. I think I might let this one go and wait a bit. I do still have my bikes so I can hold out for a bit. Quote
