DWJ Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 wondering why i would have some oil coming out the right exhaust pipe. fresh top end rebuild, has not been broke in yet. running bel-ray 32-1 mixture, and i do have brand new fmf pipes on it so the oil is not old in the pipes. any idea why? and what should i try? thanks Quote
Facetious Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Try searching the site. There are quite a few things that could cause it. I was having the same problem in mine and it ended up being a combination of my carbs not being sync'd or jetted properly. I found everything I needed to know with the search function. Check it out and enjoy working on your shee. I know I do Quote
sheefreak Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 It is most likely the crank seal on the right side. Pull your pipe off and see if you can actually dump oil out of it. You will eventually notice your tranny fluid level going down obviously..... Quote

How hard is it to replace the crank seal? Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 If the right side is burning gear oil, you will smell a noticeable difference, and the smoke will be white. There is only one way to change a crank seal: split the cases... :ermm: The seal is easy to change and the cases are easy to split, it is just time and some new gaskets. Quote

Is there any other ways to check to see if that is my prob for sure? not sure but would a compression test tell me anything one side or the other? it is smoking a considerable amount more on the R than L Quote
sheefreak Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 A leakdown test will help. How much oil are you talking? Is it smoking very noticeably worse out that side? Quote

Leakdown test? how or where can i learn how to do that. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Leak Down Test  Quote
R. Rollins Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I am not exactly sure on this but here goes: I bought a brand new Banshee last spring. I had never had a brand new one so I followed the owners manual and mixed up some 32:1 mix fuel. I had oil comming out both tail pipes and getting all over my garage walls. I was pissed. I took it out for a couple of rides and the engine leaked antifreeze all over my pipes. I finally took it all the way to Cheyenne Wyoming, where I bought it. (I live in the Denver area) After that long drive they tell me that i needed 40:1 ratio. Now why that damn manual has not reflected this after 20 plus years of production I cannot tell you. After they drained my fuel tanks and replaced the mixture with 40: 1 fuel mixture, The bike ran great. It did not overheat and did not spit out oil out of the pipes. Yamaha sells the small containers of yamalube in the size that when you dump it into an empty 5 gallon fuel can then add your High octane gasoline to fill it all the way up, you then have the 40: 1 ratio. I am no expert but this yes embarrasingly enough turned out to be a learning curve for me. I use what works. And this worked for me. Quote
