I think my cushions are worn out. Because with the gear fixed, I can move the basket back and forth with my hands if that makes sense.

I noticed it the last time I was putting my clutch back together after my engine build. I stuck a small nylon wedge between the primary drive gear and the large gear mounted to the back of the clutch basket, and when I torqued the clutch basket nut down the basket moved. So I assume the cushions have about had it??? It's the stock basket and has a lot of time on it but isn't grooved up bad as far as the fingers are concerned.

So my question is... Do I need a new basket or should I just replace the cushions? And if I need a new basket, what brand should I go with and where is the cheapest place to get one?

Hinson?

Wiseco?

Barnett?

Magnum (from Jeff)?

PE?

Stock or GYTR?

Other?

Also, do they all come with new cushions and hardware?

:thanks:  -Ryan

if i remember correctly the stock cushions are not replacable, so you're probably in for a new basket. i put a hinson basket in mine a few years ago, my last build, and it's been holding up very well since. can't say much about the others though. i got the basket from rocky mountain.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Hey Dave I. that dirt-deals link you posted is to Magic Racing in Waterford Mi. which turns out is like 25 min from my house so I'm probably just going to drive down and get one, thanks for the info. That is unless Jeff can get one to me cheaper, they're both Magnum so they should be the same piece.

Does anyone have any experience with the Wiseco basket? Its a little more money, I'm just curious if its worth it...?

Do they all come with new cushions and new hardware to replace the large rivets I have to grind off?

Thx -Ryan

i also have a magnum basket. still looked good when i last tore my engine down

with a season and a half on it. it does come with new cushions and mounting hardware.

its also a good idea to use red locktite on the mounting screws upon reassembly of your clutch.

Just like to add that a GYT-R basket is a Hinson.

Got mine new off ebay for 100. Going on its 5th season and looks as good as the day I bought it.

I also put a magnum basket in my other shee 2 yrs ago.. its holding up great and for the price.. its hard to beat.

Thanks.

Unless I can find a helluva deal online (100 bucks for a Hinson is ridiculous) I'm just going to drive down to Magic and Pick up one of the Magnum baskets then.

Thanks for the info and testimonials...lol

UPDATE...

Well here it is! New Magnum Billet Basket, Cascade CDA (pancake bearing), and I figured it would be wise to throw in a Pro Design Billet water pump impellar too while I'm in there. Can't wait to ride!

Thanks for helping me decide what to get.

good deal. Where did you get the pancake bearing at??? Was that at Magic's too???

I got the pancake bearing-clutch disengagement adjuster (CDA) and Pro Design water pump impeller from Cascade Innovations.

Where do you ride at??? I'm just north of Waterford about 15 miles.

Ha, I
