sk8inrj1 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I got a 2000 banshee in my garage. Its not mine, just trying to get it running. It has: FMF fattys Proflow Intake No lid on air box Powercore2 silencers Aluminum Cool Head It has fresh gas with yamaha pemix oil at 32:1 Took carbs apart and cleaned Gas is getting to carbs and reeds are wet I am getting spark on both plugs Compression seems low, but I don't know what good compression is. I easily turn it over by hand It has less compression than my Suzuki 1992 rm250 Any help please with getting this thing running. Also what should the jetting be with elevation of 0-1000 ft? Quote

Also what should the jetting be with elevation of 0-1000 ft? do you know what size domes it has? i'd imagine that the compression should be at least 115psi @1000 ft with 22cc domes. jetting around 310 mains, and 27.5 pilot 50 degrees. have you tried new plugs? majorcr3 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Try switching your bowls on the carbs. The left one is different from the right. Quote
killshee Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 what type of compression r u getting i would think nothing less than 110psi imo Quote
Flying_ij Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Maybe it had a degree key and its broke??? if ya got gas n fire.....its just not meeting at the right time. Edited February 12, 2009 by Flying_ij Quote
sk8inrj1 Posted February 12, 2009 Author Report Posted February 12, 2009 Thank you for the replys. It has brand new plugs. I will check out the compressions, jets, carb bowls, and flywheel and see what I come up with. I know for sure the coil and CDI module at not the poblems. Quote
R. Rollins Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 How long has it been sitting? Also, If its not yours....do have permission to be messing with someone elses she? If you have the go, ahead, I am assuming that the carbs are pluged up with that heavy oil mixture you have in it. Use 40 to 1 ratio with an entire tank of high octane fuel in it to begin with. Make sure this mixture is dead on accurate as not to burn it up. If it still wont start, and the "new, & dry " plugs are finally getting wet with the new fuel. i would then assume that its timing, carb adjustment or maybe the cylinder pressure being too low but I doubt it. twizted269 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 if its cold out could be a problem. ive got an 87 thats dead on in everything that i have checked on it. went through everything that can be checked. it is still a bitch to start when its cold. just a thought. Quote
AKheathen Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) ok, you cleaned the carbs, so check this, the choke side carb should have a little brass bead on the bottom of the reed side of the bowl, check the tube connecting the two carbs togeter on the back side of the choke for good connection, no cracks, the slides have little holes that should not be covered by the cable retainers, set the needles in the middle clip, airscrews at 1.5 turns out, and it should start up. you can adjust the jetting/needle after that. if not, check the reeds. 5 psi difference between sides is about rebuild time, but it should run anyways. did you hold the throttle wide open, and kick like 15 times? also, unscew the choke, pull it out, and check the o-ring. sk8inrj1 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 Just heard from the owner that it has some sort of aftermarket flywheel/stator for upgraded lights. He will be getting me the stock stuff monday. I believe this to be the problem now. Quote
