blaster2006 Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 heya, just installed my mods, everything is good, runs great, but theres always a problem... when i removed my stock airbox to put my pods, i lost the support of the coolant overflow bottle. i tryed to ziplock it, but it would not work, so my mechanic told me to ditch it, he pulled both hoses from it, and ziplocked it to the frame pointing downwards. there are 2 hoses, one that normallyl sucks coolant from the overflow bottle, and one that sucks coolant if it needs it. the one that sucks coolant is SLIGHTLY fatter tube ( which we noticed, incase we want to re attach the bottle later). now when i ride it, then i turn it off, i see coolant dripping on the floor, from the FATTER tube... which is the one that is supposed to suck the coolant, not throw out unnecessary coolant. it almost always does this when i see it stable... or turned off and not moving, god knows if it drips any when im moving.. but i just dont see it. it leaked so far.. if i had to guess.. about 100ml (of what i saw). and just now after i turned it off... only a few drops of coolant was coming out from the right tube, which is supposed to overflow..this just happened once.. the other leaks i saw were from the bigger tube which was supposed to take in coolant. so guys.. can someone please explain whats happening.. and why its coming out of the tube that is supposed to suck coolant? rubberneck Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Check your jetting. just read in your other thread that you had new pipes and K&N pods with 260 mains. Bet you money you are lean and overheating. By the way, the hoses dont work like you stated. There is one hose that goes from the radiator to the bottom of the recovery tank. It discharges hot fluid AND draws the fluid back into the radiator. The other hose from the top of the tank is simply the overflow hose. It goes up to the steering stem area and dumps to atmosphere at the front of the bike so that when it overheats you will see it steaming and hopefully stop riding. The only fluid that would dump out of that line with the tank removed is any that could have been in the line before removal. Certainly not 100ml. if you dumped fluid, its getting hot, or you have a bad radiator cap. Due a proper plug chop and report back. YOu are lean. Quote

Im not lean, and im running 280 mains. i rode it today, and so did my mechanic, and he said the jetting is SPOT on. i did a plug check, its all a very dark brown blackish color, it idles fine accelerates good.. the insulator, electrode etc are all black, not white etc. so if something its abit rich. The coolant goes both directions, just like a car, when its hot it goes into the bottle when it cools it pulls it back. I live in hot ass AZ and we dont run the overflow bottles. But if you want to put it back on i will send you a billet mounting bracket that i have laying around for the bottle. Just PM me your address. Edited February 6, 2009 by uwenr Quote
dragbanshee Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I would say you are lean as already mentioned numerous times, but hey if you want to trust your mech! How did you do a plug check? Wont read accurate if your just pulling it and checking after just riding and then letting it idle, it will more than likely show rich if thats the way your checking. Another thing it needs to be a new plug when you do a plug chop or a run and check. Check the search button for how to on a plug chop for the correct way. Your other post said something about bogging on take off, could be another sign of lean conditions. Just trying to help out! Quote
DallasGDub Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Is this the same Mechanic that gave you advise on tors? You can cut the back wall of your old air box out and fab it into bottle mount. Quote

Im thinking of duct taping it on... really well.. dont know if it will hold. and uwenr... thanks for the billet bracket, thats really nice, sent you a PM got some questions about it. Oh and lets say i re attach my coolant bottle ( which i drained the coolant out of obviously when i took it off) can i just re fill only the overflow bottle with some other random brand coolant? or is it not good to mix coolants? and im gonna have to drain all the coolant from my radiator? and then drain the coolant leftover from the cylinders -.-. I dont see any pms also just opened the radiator cap, it was FULL to the top, so i guess im safe and good to go, can i just keep the thing ditched, and from time to time just make sure that the radiator is full of coolant? dragbanshee Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 great idea, cant believe i did not think of that, working on that now. You shoulda thought of it after I posted this on the 4th after you asked about it... LOL Did you shut your fuel off? If you did, it will stop leaking after the fuel runs out of the carb, no worries. You either need to get the relocator bracket or I think you could prolly destroy the airbox and make the bracket out of that???? Or you can run without. BTW those screws can be a bitch to get out without stripping sometimes. Your better off replacing them with allen screws. Quote
